Jio paused, staring at the tub.
“My fire, what is this?” he called.
“What is what?” she called back. He could hear her footsteps drawing swiftly near.
Once she’d stepped in behind him, he gestured at the tub. “That!”
The bathtub looked far larger than what one found in most homes. Indeed, he knew from past experience that it had room enough for both him and his beloved. But now, in addition to the steaming water he expected, a white foam coated the top of it, mounding above the rim of the tub though not overflowing it.
Laughing, his wife replied, “It’s a bubble bath! You need a bit of pampering, dear heart.”
Jio looked between the bath and his wife, mouth opening and closing several times as he tried to wrap his brain around the concept.
After a day spent defending the realm in the pouring rain, Jio eagerly returns home to his wife. Even after all this time, she still finds ways of surprising him.

He knew who she meant, she knew who she meant. Hell, he had a feeling even Jas knew who she meant. The new farmer who had moved into the valley, taking over the old abandoned farm not far from his aunt's ranch. A woman with an utterly annoying sunny disposition. It wasn't that he liked her. It was just nice seeing his god-daughter sit in the farmers lap, making daisy chains and animatedly talking about the chickens. It was enough to make him smiled... if it hadn't been for Emily's frustratingly knowing grin.

So you, a random farmer, betting on him—the losing dog— was enough for him. Not in any special way. It was simply enough.
Alex had taken in a shaky breath and stared for a long time, utterly confused and slightly embarrassed about the situation. But you seemed more than content with it, and for a boy like him? Well, it would have to suffice.
“I don’t really get what’s happening,” he began with a soft tremor.
You smiled back at him with kind eyes, leaning in your shovel. “You don’t have to understand,” you said. “You just have to be okay.”
