Summary
“How?” Jayce asks breathlessly. The figure doesn’t respond; instead, they lift a slender hand, covered in strange blue veins and runes, and for a moment, it looks like the figure might drop something from their hands to Jayce’s gloved ones before they pause.
In a universe two steps from canon, the Arcane Herald exists as a patron god of Zaun. At age 8, Jayce encountered this god, changing the course of his life. At age 14, he is discovered by the Herald’s order and told he’s the god’s Chosen, his mortal consort. At age 18, Jayce is sent to live in the Commune, the heart of the Herald’s order, to ascend to his destined status.
Given a year to prepare, Jayce is paired with an Acolyte named Viktor to teach him the ins and outs of his role. As time goes on, Jayce finds himself drawn to Viktor, unable to stop himself from falling for the other man. Jayce finds himself torn between his growing feelings for Viktor and his destiny with the Arcane Herald. Meanwhile, Viktor is holding onto a secret of his own. The only question is if this secret will bring them together or tear them apart.

The foreign hammer vibrates by his side, as if hungry for blood. Words of his own and not tear through his head. Again and again. He has no strength left for tears. There is nowhere to run. And then Viktor opens his eyes.
They are soft, galaxies swirling inside, and his partner's lips curve up in a smile. Familiar. Gentle. He drops the hammer, the Mage’s voice loud in his head, speaking of the incoming ruin, of eternal, dull stillness of life. But he can't do this. He failed. Viktor is not a man he can kill, never him. Not even for the sake of the world.
(Jayce immediately folds upon seeing Viktor in the commune and does not kill him. It goes better than he thought.)

The face of his long-dead partner in Hextech stared ardently at his creator. Perfectly cut dark hair that never changed even after a year, down to the cut on his eyebrow, and his smile. The only difference was in his crystal blue eyes, illuminated in heavy devotion.
Jayce dies after saving his partner from the council explosion with the Hexcore. In his grief, Viktor nurtures the rune that had once adorned the original’s wrist for most of his life, and creates a Hextech android in Jayce’s likeness, as they fall deeply in love.

He is a monstrosity now. A hollow thing, metal and magic, his pulse a ticking rhythm of desire that he cannot justify and does not trust. He does not know what Jayce was thinking when he bound Viktor to this thing, and he does not care to.
He was supposed to die.
And he will.
All of Hextech's mistakes, destroyed at once. The weapons blueprints. The Hexcore. Viktor himself. A shock of pain arcs through him so sharply that his body bows with it, a groan grinding out of his metal throat, and it melts into a bitter laugh in his mouth.
Let the Hexcore hurt him.
Let it do its worst, with what little time it has left.

Jayce blinks. "I'm sorry," he says, turning his head to find Viktor already looking at him with those ever-curious eyes, "Are you suggesting that we broke time?"
