A Breaking Dawn rewrite where Bella realizes her relationship with Edward was solely bloodlust, co-dependency, trauma bonding, low self-esteem, and predator/prey physical and mental hypnosis. She runs at the altar, goes through hell with trauma, learns to love herself, chooses humanity, and chooses Jacob. This is a character-focused and wolfpack-focused fic that leans into the psychological horror potential of Twilight. It is an angsty, agonizing slowburn. The Cullens are not cast in a good light. Dual POV of Bella and Jacob. This is what Breaking Dawn SHOULD HAVE BEEN, to me, anyway. Toni’s eyes linger to the man to their right. Paul seems unfazed, maybe a little amused, scanning the clearing for his friends. His brow is furrowed as his eyes wash over the boys, and land swiftly on Toni.
What an incredibly fucking weird feeling.
It’s like something inside of her shifts into its correct place with a satisfying click - there’s something, and she doesn’t know what it is, but there’s something deep in her chest cavity that was off-kilter before that exact moment.
To her surprise, Paul’s expression changes completely, seemingly instantaneous upon looking at her. She watches as any pressure in his brow seems to relax entirely, the man’s jaw dropping open as he views her. His eyes look so soft all of a sudden, the look on his face seeming possessed, entranced in some way.
Entranced seems the perfect word to describe it. Before she can register what’s happening, the man has quite literally fallen to his knees, the look in his eyes nearing how a religious zealot would view an incarnation of God himself.

Bella's sister Toni follows her out to the woods, not realizing Bella's about to confront Jacob and the wolves. Paul imprints, and hijinks ensue

In the forest there was a clearing, and in the clearing, there was a house. It’s made of wood and the roof is thatched. There is a small barn beside the home, just large enough to keep a chicken coop and some supplies. On the other side of the home there is a garden, well-tended and littered with bright flowers.
A woman watches a family play in front of this home. She stays hidden in the trees as the six children chase each other, laughing wildly. There is a fond smile on her face as she drinks in the scene before her.
She hopes one day she can tell them this story. That there was a time when they were happy, and carefree, and alive. She will tell them that the summer was warm, and bright, the wind was cool, and gentle.
She will tell them that there was a time—a brief wonderful time—when their parents called them in for supper, they were not afraid. That their mother and father embraced each child, running their fingers through the children’s hair, with their eyes glowing with love.
She will tell them that their lives started with love, not pain.
That will have to be later, though, because the Mikealson’s haven’t met her yet. But they will.
They are her destiny, after all.
