There were victims at the ends of these strings, The Mother had told him. They would be delicious.With curiosity, Jon reached out and let the bright red string curl around his finger freely. The most beautiful, he thought. It tightened around him. In response, Jon gave it a gentle tug.
Instantly, his vision was overtaken.
Tea, made perfectly with milk and a dash of sugar and a lot of love. A deep, deep loneliness. A lie on a resume. White fog, dusty shelves full of documents, a sound like wet pasta. Fear, fear, fear. Jon’s face, all eight of his eyes open, gazing sharply at something behind him.
Love, love, love. So much love.
A gunshot.
“Martin!” Jon gasped, coming to. “Who the hell is Martin?”

A sort of throbbing ache of the heart that comes when one’s life is on the line.” He took a few slow stalking steps toward Gale who, notably, did not back down.
There was that quickened pulse. Astarion moved closer still, so close now to catching his prey. He leaned forward and smiled, knowing it meant his fangs were glinting in the torchlight.
“What I am saying, Gale of Waterdeep, is that I would very much like to fuck you.”

“Perhaps not specifically. You see, the problem about writing on drow society is one often does not make it up from the Underdark to hand pages to publisher. Of course there are many…less researched volumes. Of hapless men and leather-clad matrons. But I told Shadowheart I would be a gentleman, so that is all I will say on the more sordid parts of my education. You’ve nothing to fear.”

He’d given Astarion a wide berth since the revelation of his vampiric condition a few days earlier, so he was surprised to see the pale elf looming over him now, a peculiar expression on his face.
“You know,” Gale offered with a smile, “in my extensive journeys across manifold realms, I do believe that is not a question that I’ve ever been asked before. I honestly can’t decide whether or not I should be offended.”

Of the many side effects Gale has faced as a result of his whole “being physical host to an imminently destructive magical orb” problem, he somehow never anticipated his blood now apparently smelling irresistible to vampires (or at least, one particular vampire) to be one of them.

With two discerning appetites, a deal to keep each other fed is the one thing that ties Astarion and Gale together. But the proverbial collar slips all too easily around Gale's throat, the lead feels right in Astarion's unchained hands, and both men think they've bested the other in a game neither should be playing.
In any case. As the greats say in lanceboard: there is no shame in losing to a stronger foe.
