Will Graham dies from an illness, encephalitis, that Hannibal knew about but deliberately kept hidden from him. Haunted by the guilt of knowing he could have saved him, Hannibal is forced to live with the loss of the only person who ever truly understood him.
Then, on the night before Will’s funeral, someone knocks on Hannibal’s door.
It is Will.
Except Will is dead, his body has already been embalmed, and neither of them can understand how he is standing there.

He wondered if Hannibal would learn to perk up at the sound of Will’s uneven gait, meeting his eyes only after the last step. It would be learned without conscious noise- simple conditioning. Salivating at the sound of a bell, hungering at the sight of him. He wanted to be so deep inside Hannibal’s cathedral of a mind that the very sound of Will’s breath would set the beast’s brain on fire, pulling on chains with no will of its own.
For now, though, he needed to nurse the man back to health. All in good time.
In which both Hannibal and Will survive the fall, with Hannibal gravely injured and nonspeaking. They navigate this new dynamic and the aftermath of becoming through exchanging power, vulnerability, and ownership- something bright as hellfire, holy as the tail of the fallen morning star.

Wolfwood had saved Vash. Though, the only problem is, now he's going off on his own. So, Vash has one request. One night, together, in the ways they wished the could back before the Ark. Neither were blind to the glances, plus, making out wasn't a friendship thing, typically. It would be a crime to say neither of them wanted it.
So, they did it. Together, they spent the night, on a shabby makeshift bed, having sex and kissing each other, one last time before they went their separate ways.

“Can’t sleep?” a voice cut through. When Wolfwood turned to the source, he found Vash leaning against the railing of the tiny balcony next to him. They had put their rooms adjacent! Of course! “Yeah, me neither.”
One night, with the moons high in the sky, Wolfwood was up, unable to sleep, thinking about Vash. Vash, on the other hand, could not sleep for reasons unknown to Wolfwood. It wasn't like the reasons mattered any longer, because he intruded on Wolfwood's lonesome reminiscing, making sure he remembered just how it felt to be with each other in the dead of night. With fear entangling with an undying need, Wolfwood found himself sprawled out, the forbidden fruit hanging just within Vash's reach.
