We could really use that potion, Astarion, Tav said to him earlier. At least do it for Jade. They’ve been giving you their blood. This is your opportunity to give back to them for once.
As much as he hated to admit it, Tav had a valid point: Astarion owed Jade so much for being his constant food source. And since they never accepted his propositions for sex, he couldn’t give anything back to them in return. It was an ever-present thought that had been pestering him ever since they officially established each other as friends.
So what else could he do but bite the drow?
