No one knows exactly how poorly until Angel Dust, back staying at the Vees' tower, makes a discovery he really could have lived without knowing.
Months pass before Lucifer is able to negotiate with the Vees, but even then, the results aren't exactly palatable. Everyone is on edge, Angel still barely wants to be in the gang's presence, and Alastor might never be the same.
Lucifer doesn't know if he can fix Charlie's worries this time, but he has to try -- even if that means getting close to an even less pleasant version of his least favorite sinner.

Harry couldn't sleep. He had been plagued with bizarre dreams ever since the man had arrived to Twin Peaks. All centering around Dale's eyes.

“You should be in Baldur’s Gate, what in the nine hells are you doing here?” Astarion hisses. Gods, he’s already talking to the dog. That won’t do at all. “Move along, Scratch. If you found your way here, surely you can find your way back.”
He pushes the dog’s snout away, and Scratch’s long tongue lolls out and leaves a trail of slobber across the back of Astarion’s hand.
He shudders, full-bodied, and gropes around for a rag. “Oh, I did not miss this.”

A quiet knock on his door awoke Alastor from the blissful unawareness of sleep – and for a moment he was able to luxuriate in the feeling of a heavy arm draped over his middle, slow breaths tickling the bare skin of his chest. Was able to enjoy the warmth along his thighs, where Lucifer’s leg was hooked between his, face buried against his torso and blonde hair in disarray, a bright splash against the dark tips of his own.
Caught in that hazy world between awareness and unconsciousness, his powers detecting no threat and his additional senses not seeing fit to drag him more fully into the world of the dead, Alastor tipped his head down and pushed his nose into that blonde hair. His duvet lay heavily over the two of them, every nerve and inch of skin filled with a languid warmth as he inhaled the scent of soap and apples.
And – salt.

Summary
After almost dying in the abstract and absurd name of betterment, Alastor is left mortally injured and enraged, his life in everyone's hands but his own. Too deeply entangled in his own games to walk away, too proud to ask for help, he returns to centre stage of the repaired hotel to carry on playing his role, even though the spotlights burn and his costume is getting bloody.
No one will ever know. He will get the better of this on his own. Even if it kills him.
(In which Alastor struggles with the weight of his reputation and Rotting in equal measure, Charlie deals with the lingering guilt of having friends die for her, and Husk and Angel figure out a way to get away from Valentino. Slowburn, but instead of romance it’s a man dying because of his own hubris and obsession with control.)
