Mike’s words came through with a startling clarity, their effect on Will immediate. The way his name rolled off his tongue, hanging in the silence between them, felt like an arrow poised at Will’s heart. It stuttered in his chest, and his breath hitched, a quiet, embarrassing sound.
“W…ll…” Mike repeated. “Will… I…”
The rest of his sentence was swallowed, as Mike shifted again, a small thing that startled Will. His heart rate picked up, probably loud enough to be heard through the basement.
It's September 1986 and the Byers have been staying at the Wheeler's for the past six months. Things between Mike and Will have turned worse, leaving Will to struggle with the fractured remains of their friendship. But one day Mike falls asleep and Will overhears something he shouldn't.

For the first time in a while, Eddie found himself truthfully embarrassed to finish his sentence. His smile turned wry, almost sheepish. "Ah, I don't think... we're new, Stevie, and my comment was all kinds of fucked up--"
"Tell me, Eddie," Steve said as he parked the Beamer in his driveway.
Eddie swallowed. There was no distraction of the road to cover up what he was about to say and he rolled his eyes. "I... might've... I was kind of going to say something about making you a mother of three," he breathed hoarsely.
Steve went pink but was suddenly grinning from ear to ear. He was silent as he got out of the car and pivoted to open the back, letting the sun fall onto Eddie's features as he peered down at him. "Not six? I always pictured six."
After registering that response, without another thought, Eddie kissed him.

Eddie Munson survives the Upside Down and hides out at Steve Harrington's house to recover. Eddie completely changes Steve's life, sexuality and all.

After months of sleeping at Eddie's headstone on and off, Steve is wounded while fighting the mind flayer's Demogorgon spawn with the kids. As he goes to Eddie's grave to wait for his death, He is met with the shock of a lifetime.
(TW- mentions of: Steve was probably being harassed physically, emotionally, and sexually by both Billy/Jason (more by Jason, I don't think Billy would have touched him, he actually seems like more of a follower than a leader. He seemed to be the one always searching for validation, especially from adults. In my writing, He never touches Steve like that, but he is physically aggressive as a sort of outlet.) after they found out that he was sleeping with Eddie while on the basketball team, and that's why he stopped playing in season 2. I know people like Jason, but I think he's an insidious, abusive douchebag that they did not explore as a character because he was padded by being good-looking. Chrissy deserved a better boyfriend. Diving into Billy Hargrove, I think he was incredibly traumatized, and also a bad person who did bad things. He was bad, but I think he was a more complex character than Jason.
