In a Cybertron ruled not by Functionism, but by the power structure that keeps all minibots enslaved to the "real" mecha, a little yellow bug is purchased from the minibot slave academy by Optimus Prime. Bumblebee, the perfect image of an eager, obedient slave, wants nothing more than to be good for his master. Optimus, who's been working with his allies on advocating for minibot rights, was expecting to find Bumblebee desperate to escape the system and live as a free bot. Bumblebee can't even imagine wanting anything of the kind.

He sinks into Starscream’s hold with a gasp, neck bared as he leans his forehead against the cool metal of the wall. “I don’t want a saint, Starscream,” Bumblebee manages to say at last, panting against the wall with an uncomfortable warmth spreading through his chest, “And I don’t want you trying to be something you’re not.”
Or: Kink negotiation is a lot like diplomatic negotiation, in the end.

The common Autobot wisdom about running into a Decepticon that you'd known before the war was: don't.
M.T.Os were one thing; they hadn't really picked a side. But it was different for those who'd been around since before the war. Nobody who’d willingly joined the Decepticons had been a happy or well-adjusted individual to start with, and the war had only made things worse.
So when Ratchet caught sight of the mech who was leading his band of captors, nobody could blame him for panicking just a little.
(Or: Shot down en-route to Kimia, Ratchet reunites with Drift a few millennia ahead of schedule. When Drift is still a devout and ruthless Decepticon.)

Summary
You know, it's not hard to get into almost anywhere if you're good at it. A little practice playing with a lock'll get you into most locked rooms on a ship like this, but truth be told it's totally overkill as long as you're charming. A smile, a warm EM field, and the right attitude will get you into way more places than a set of lockpicks or a crowbar ever will, you know that? It's not so hard.
Vortex comes to take what he wants. Shame you're such an easy mark.
