“Are you going to pass out?” Percy asked, like he’d read the exact script in Vax’s head.
“No. Maybe. I am going to be sick.”
“Please don’t be sick,” Percy begged, wincing as Vax half-collapsed against the wall and let the world tilt. “What do I do?” He’d never been in a fight except with words. He’d never seen this much blood come out of anything that wasn’t a rabbit on the dissecting table.
Vax was laughing, high and sharp, the way a broken music box laughs when you wind it too far. “You don’t want to help, run,” he spat, “I’m not going to chase you. Promise.”
When Vax's attempt at kidnapping a third son goes spectacularly wrong, Percy kidnaps himself out of guilt. It was supposed to be simple, but apparently Percy's never met a simple situation he couldn't over think.

No, this man (just like Percy, who recently turned 19). He’s probably about Percy’s age, maybe a little older, but he runs with the Clasp. Percy only knows a few things for certain about Vax’ildan: he’s good with daggers. He’s got a twin sister. He’s fast as lightning when he wants to be, good at fading away into the shadows, too.
He’s a thief, and probably an assassin to boot.
And he’s easily the most beautiful person Percy’s ever seen.
