Summary
The traffic moves. Buck contemplates pulling over on the side of the road and running off into the distance.
This is none of his fucking business, and he doesn't understand why the memory of Eddie looking up at this man makes him feel like there's a ball of snakes writhing in his stomach, why his face is burning.
“I,” Eddie says, and in his periphery, Buck catches him stretching his legs out in the footwell, “wasn't interested.”
Buck swallows his first response, which is didn't look like it, because he's an asshole on a good day, but he's not that bad.
It's okay for Eddie to be interested. It's okay for him to date, and Buck wants that for him, except—
or: christopher is becoming his own person, eddie doesn't want to date until he suddenly does, buck is just trying to get his best friend out of the house, and the whole shivering, chest-aching-knees-knocking thing that keeps happening to him whenever eddie smiles real wide is nothing to worry about.

He reaches out for the bedside table on his side of the bed they share, clumsily unplugs his phone one-handed. The screen lights up to a familiar wallpaper, and it's right there, just above the top of Buck's head: Wednesday.

“I could think of worse curses,” Bobby says, suddenly popping up behind Buck's back only to lean over his shoulder and steal the last donut hole. “You live in the same building, Buck. You're going to see each other. Maybe you should embrace it and actually talk to him.”
Buck closes his eyes, just for a minute. He has the beginnings of a headache knocking at the back of his head, probably from lack of sleep, and he kind of detests that he even notices it. That it's tripping him up a little.
“And say what, Cap?” he asks. “Hey, I'm Buck, sorry you keep meeting my one night stands?”
“Mm,” Bobby shrugs, chewing as he makes his way into the kitchen. Buck does not like the look in his eyes. “Maybe you should stop having those first.”

The oven is still warm, filling the entire apartment with the smell of home and peace. The night is quiet, refreshing after the day that had passed. Three pairs of shoes sit by the front door. The moon is not quite full, but bright enough to send light passing through the blinds, passing between threads of the curtains in the living room.
Chris is glued to Buck’s side, the three crammed together on the left side of Eddie’s couch. There’s no need to sit in the way they do, the couch spans across the room, soft and inviting. Buck is sandwiched between his two favorite people, both of which are dangerously close to falling asleep. Buck thinks that if he could take all the clocks in the world, if he could pause them for a single moment and live in it forever, it would be this moment. This place.
