Holland gave him an apologetic wince before he looked back at Holly.
“Holly,” he said, gentler, “Look at me.” He waited until Holly complied with his request. “Honey, did you punch Janet in the face?”

Simon’s gaze travels out the front wall, transparent and giving him full range of sight of the beach.
On the other end, he can spot Grace, laughing at something as his final class is coming to an end. He can almost hear the sound of the laugh as it entangles into that of the breeze and the waves. Rocky and Adrian walk along the beach by his side, all talking together about something he can’t make out from here.
Simon’s eyes flick back over to the tree on the opposite side of the greenhouse. “I know. I’m trying.” Simon inhales deeply as he draws his arm across his chest to rub his other shoulder. “I just…”
As he trails off, the room is filled by the sound of dripping water and rustling leaves again.——

“You ate some of it?” I ask, rudely. I’m too irate to mind my language. Who do they think they are? That meat is for Grace. In a way, that meat is Grace.
“Yes,” ♫♬♯♩♩♫ says. They and the rest of the human life support thrum know better than to be offended by my occasionally strange behaviour. “Obviously we weren’t going to risk the life of Honoured Grace on a completely untested technology.”
That doesn’t mean much. There’s a lot of things that are safe for ingestion by Eridians that would outright kill a human.
Trust Grace, I remind myself. He’ll have thought of all this.

On Centaxday, two hours before sunrise, Clone Force 99 arrived on Kashyyyk to aid in Wookiee efforts to wipe out Trandoshan camps on the perimeter of Kkowir Forest. By Benduday, following a series of precision strikes and unfortunate encounters with the local wildlife, the Invasion of Kashyyyk had officially begun, and Commander Gree was seeing the task force off with the promise that he would be in contact once the main city was retaken.
This promise, naturally, was nothing more than a pleasantry. Clone Force 99 was memorable, but ultimately unimportant: they were a single cog in a machine much bigger than themselves, and a Marshal Commander like Gree had more pressing matters to attend to. It was enough already that he had taken the time out of his day to accompany the squad back to their ship.
Most Commanders who enlisted their help, like Bacara or Neyo, didn’t even say goodbye.
