Spencer would be lying if he said that he was not hurt by the fact that no one on the team helped him when he was dealing with his addiction. But it was fine because they only did that so he would not lose his job. Or that was what he told himself for five years. But now… now that Strauss was dealing with addiction, they could help without endangering her job. It felt like he had been stabbed in his back. The team liked him, he was sure that they were like family… but what if he got it all wrong. What if they just did not help him when he needed it because they did not like him.
A hurt comfort fic with focus on Spencer that deals with former addiction and how we can hurt the people we care about the most without us noticing. But there comfort in this fic I promise.

What if the events of season 3, episode 9 "Penelope" happened to Spencer instead of Garcia? (Set sometime between season 9 and 10)
“I thought…” His voice trails off and Spencer's mouth turns into a thin line. Even now, after evading death by the narrowest of margins, Spencer still manages to find a way to think too hard. “…I thought they liked me.” The words come out as barely a crackle, but they all hear it. Suddenly the room feels cold.
After Reid is shot on a date, the team have to rush to find the person who did this to him and bring them to justice. However, Reid isn't being entirely forthcoming about all of the details, leaving Morgan to wonder just what it is Reid is hiding from them.
