Angel’s heart trips on a beat. The honesty of that confession startles their eyes open, forcing them back into the blue tunnel of Aki’s own inescapable ones. They want to speak, but they can’t—they can’t do anything, paralyzed by the strength of Aki’s words, of his touch, his presence.
“No matter how many weeks or months it was, it was worth it.” His eyelids flutter in and out, like he’s still processing their kiss, but can’t look away from Angel. “Whatever happens will happen,” he whispers simply. “This was worth the rest of my life.”

Mydei leans away from the dromas at the sight of him. He looks the same as he always does: scowl in place, dressed and armored in Kremnoan attire. Yet in Phainon’s preheat vision, Mydei is achingly handsome—sleek lines, sharp angles, and a ruggedness from years on the battlefield.

“What took you so long?” Mydei snaps. “We’re heading to a negotiation, not a field trip. No need to bring all your outfits."
“What if I want to impress the stakeholder?” Phainon jests, adjusting his tunic to hide his lower torso. He falters, however, when he notices Mydei’s sharp hazel eyes fixed on the slick staining his front. For a moment, Phainon feels raw and exposed, shame creeping up his neck. The man in question shushes him, letting the hand on Childe’s chest trail upwards until a finger is pressed lightly against his lips.
“Before you answer, I suppose I should be honest with you,” Zhongli says, watching Childe with rapt eyes as the alpha draws the finger between his teeth, then lets it rest upon his tongue. A rumbling sound pulls from Zhongli’s chest before he continues. He pulls his finger from between Childe’s lips, lightly tracing a wet path down the side of his jaw.
“While mortal omegas in heat may only experience the instincts to nest and be bred,” Zhongli’s finger meets the underside of Childe’s chin, and then he takes the chin into a firm grip, clawed thumb digging into pale flesh. “I experience the instinct to devour. To claim. To control.”
Riveted, Childe’s eyes do not venture away from Zhongli’s for even a moment. He says nothing.
“So tell me, Childe,” Zhongli continues, releasing his hold on the other’s jaw, and leaning in further so that his lips brush the sensitive skin of Childe’s ear. “Is that something you can handle?”
