Tim’s reading the name on the stolen business card when their spectator finally makes himself known.
"You didn’t earn that, so I’m going to have to ask for it back," the man says, sounding almost sorry about it.
"Not the wallet?" Jason asks, playing the fool.
Tim appreciates it, for all that his pulse is still thudding in his ears. He lets himself shrink, adopts a wide-eyed demeanor in contrast to Jason’s more flinty one, and makes his own move.
"What can we do? To earn it, I mean?"
"Babe," Jason turns to him, frowning but quick to pick up on what Tim’s trying to do.
"I can think of a few things," the guy says.
Going undercover is old hat for Tim; that's what makes it so easy for him to get on his knees for a mark.

"Give." The crack of Damian's voice was like a whip, right next to Tim's ear, and God that did things it shouldn't have.
Tim's hands shot up, one of them right into Damian's hair, twisting, pulling, the other slipping between glove and gauntlet, fingers pressing right against his wrist bone, threatening the break he was more than capable of. He pushed hard, but not quite hard enough to actually deal such damage.

Finally, an eerily chipper voice picked up. “Well, well, well. They told us we might get new blood, I wasn’t expecting you to sound so sweet. What’s your name, darling?”
“You can call me Tim.”
“Tim,” the new voice was low and angry. Red Hood’s icon lit up. “You expect us to believe that’s your real name? Tim? You sound like a fucking office worker.”

“Who’s gonna tell on you, huh?”Jason teases, leaning across the coffee table to peer down at Tim with heavy lids.
“Me? I won’t tell if you don’t, Timmy.”
Tim gulps at the soft rasp of his tone, brushing against his skin like smoke. Jason cocks his head like he’s seriously waiting for Tim to answer, to lock in a very real and serious oath of secrecy. Goosebumps rising on his arms, it feels more serious to Tim than it has any right to be- he needs to calm down, there’s no way his crush isn’t showing. Tim gathers up his scant courage to meet Jason’s hazel eyes.
“I won’t tell.” He whispers, his voice feeling almost too loud in the silence of the paltry hours before dawn. Jason sits back in his armchair, more satisfied than Tim feels is appropriate for a measly inside joke. He grins like a wolf, wide and drunk on the blood of a kill.
“Good.”

Summary
“Baby Bird?” Jason’s voice shifted, softened into something almost fragile, as if he were speaking to a child. Maybe, in his eyes, Tim was exactly that. The familiar nickname—so wrong, so tender—sent a tremor down Tim’s spine. Jason never called him that. Jason never spoke to him with warmth.
Jason hated Tim.
He shut his eyes tight, praying this was just a cruel dream. But then warm hands cupped his face, grounding him. A metallic clatter echoed through the cave, sharp and final. The gun had hit the floor.
“No, no, no—don’t close those blue eyes, Baby Bird. Look at me,” this time Jason’s voice cracked into a plea. Every word trembled with fear, with a need that made Tim’s chest tighten painfully. Tim bit down on a sob, the taste of salt and blood filling his mouth, forcing himself to lift his gaze and meet the toxic green fire of Jason’s eyes once more. He could feel the tremor in Jason’s hands, the way his knees pressed into the cold floor, and it made his own body ache with tension.

There was a beat of stunned silence.

“Wait—flowers?” Richard said. “From Ra’s?”
“What the hell is this timeline?” Stephanie mumbled.
Kon said nothing, just gave Timothy a supportive nudge and plugged in the drive.
The screen blinked to life.
