James opened his mouth as if to speak, but no words followed. “I…” He couldn't meet Anthony’s eyes, looking down at his fidgeting hands instead. “I can't,” he ground out, hardly more than a whisper.

Summary
Maybe it was the fact that his boundaries had been violated so often in life by those around him, but it took the Captain a while to feel comfortable with the idea of doing certain activities with Havers. It was Havers who eventually brought it up. They'd been seated at breakfast one morning when he said he'd been contemplating them taking the next step in their affections.
They'd already skipped around the topic for a good number of months, entirely avoiding addressing it. It was a lot longer than the Captain assumed most couples would take to begin those ventures. During the time that they'd been romantically associated, Julian had already made a few off-colour remarks in the assumption that they'd already done such things together, oblivious to their continued abstinence.

Lots of focus on the aftermath of abuse and trauma, playing with freeze responses and the way the different crewmembers navigate all this.
