Summary
Katsuki doesn’t know what it is tonight; maybe it’s something in the stiff way Shouto’s arms wrap around him or the way those heterochromatic eyes don’t quite meet his own red ones as they pull apart, but Katsuki feels like something’s different between them tonight. He tries to put it out of his mind as he heads out for patrol, but it nags at him. It makes his stomach feel as if he’s swallowed worms and they’re working their way through his insides. He’s done this to himself, he at least knows that much. It all makes him wonder if Shouto knows or if it’s his own guilty conscience eating away at him. He hates that gross feeling in his stomach, and he decides that tonight is the night he ends it. He absolutely cannot do this anymore.

Another long pause. He can almost hear Shoto thinking, can picture the slight frown, the distant look in his stupid eyes.
“The line,” Shoto says slowly, “is anything that would damage our working relationship after this ends. Anything that would make it impossible for us to be partners when we walk away. That’s the only boundary that matters.”
So it's not a physical boundary. It’s an emotional one. Feelings. And that's so much more dangerous.
