It's not like they ended things on bad terms—when they talked about it all those years ago, they agreed that they worked better as friends, especially with everything they had going for them. Hinata was heading off to Brazil to give the world a go; Atsumu was never going to leave Japan. They didn't see the point of keeping anything long-distance, not with the value they both placed in physically being near their partner.
As far as Atsumu's concerned, it worked out fine.

Four years ago, Kozume Kenma and Kuroo Tetsurou broke up. It was over the phone, late at night, and both of them were very tired for very different reasons. Kenma hasn't heard from Kuroo since. And judging by the way it all went down, he doesn't think he ever will.
Until an invitation arrives in Kenma's mail, inviting him and Kuroo to Hinata and Kageyama's wedding, and Kenma realizes that he has conveniently forgotten to tell anyone that he and Kuroo broke up. So what does Kenma do instead of the clearly rational thing and just telling Hinata the truth? He calls Kuroo for the first time in four years to get him to pretend that they're still together.

Or: Osamu's trying to find out if Bokuto and Akaashi are dating or not so he can ask one of them out. Which one? He… hasn't figured that out yet.
