It had been almost two years since an attack on Piltover shook the city. Almost two years since Jayce lost his partner. With tensions increasing, the city turned to their Golden Boy for guidance and protection. But with the light gone from his life, Jayce was growing increasingly tired of being viewed as a means to the city's ends.
Viktor, on the other hand, woke up in Zaun, far from the life he had built -- a life he never thought he'd have. Being experimented on to become a weapon for the Undercity, he held onto hope that his partner would come looking for him. His hope died as time went on and he grew resentful of Piltover and its Defender.
Alchemical experiments on Zaunites continued, giving them extraordinary strength and resilience, with...unfortunate side effects. Piltover catches a whiff of something brewing in the Undercity and relies on their best man for help. But when he finds out who is at the bottom of it, city politics are quickly forgotten. All the emotions Jayce and Viktor had been sitting on for two years, quickly resurface and they make it everybody's problem.

Viktor had barely settled back into his work when he heard the lab door slowly creak open.
He froze.
The campus should be closed at this time of night, especially on Progress Day. No one except for him, Jayce, Sky, and campus security even had access to enter this lab. He knew for certain Jayce and Sky were not returning until tomorrow morning. Sky left hours ago, mentioning she would be meeting with friends from the Undercity. Meanwhile, Jayce was representing Hextech at the afterparty Viktor declined to attend at the last minute, meeting foreign investors who were visiting for Progress Day.
Viktor whirled around, poised to face the intruder while armed with a flat-head screwdriver as his eyes scanned every corner of the lab in search of an unwelcome visitor.
But no one was there.
