"Uhhhh... I think I left it on the couch."
Elizabeth sighed as it was in fact lying closed on the couch at an angle that suggested it was not carefully placed. "Next time put it in the cubby so the cats don't get to it easily," she called in Alex's general direction.
"Okay, Aunt Liz."
Yeah, he definitely wasn't listening. Oh well.
She flopped onto the couch and opened her computer up, unsurprised Alex had left a video game open on it. This kid. What did surprise her, and slightly disturb her, was that she opened it the a pastel man coated in blood staring at her with one eye, his hand over the edge of the screen as if he was gripping it. There was a text box.
'Sike, you think you're really in control? You think you can just keep poking and prodding at me like that and I'm going to take it?'

The mansion had been the first building to be built in the town, though it would be more accurate to say that the town was built around the mansion. The Afton family had resided in that mansion for nearly a thousand years now, what they saw in the location and why they stayed was likely the only question about them that truly lingered in Hurricane, though it was decided that they must enjoy the peace. Perhaps they were right, or perhaps the Afton family simply delighted in knowing this was one of the few places where humans could know of the existence of vampires and still co-exist peacefully.or
Charlie and Henry move into the town of Hurricane and discover that their neighbors are vampires and the Aftons are rather curious about what secrets the Emilys have.

Today was a Saturday, it was her birthday. Her and Evan's birthday to be specific. The only birthday they'd have in 1983. Pity how birthdays only came once a year. After a little bit, Elizabeth snuck away from the party. All the noise was starting to hurt her head and she was fairly sure she'd explode if she stayed there a second longer. There was a brief second where she considered getting Evan to sneak off with her, just in case Michael decided to be as stupid as usual, but after a quick glance she didn't see him. Probably hiding under a table, knowing him. The longer she lingered, the less likely it was she'd be able to sneak away. Oh well, she'd told Evan to punch Michael if he tried anything today, so hopefully he'd listen.

Sometimes, by whatever the mercy of whatever power you wish to call it, God, fate, destiny, the universe, luck, the story changes for the better. Maybe every so often, someone gets lucky enough to survive. Maybe not all of them, but maybe just one person gets to live as they are a little longer than whatever controls our world originally had planned. Maybe in this universe, Charlotte "Charlie" Emily wouldn't die out in the rain.

It wasn't that Michael expected to have a normal 21st birthday, given he no friends to speak of and his only living family member wasn't exactly eager to party with him. He hadn't planned to celebrate at all, in fact. It had been eight years since he stopped liking birthdays. It was now 1991 and that showed no signs of changing in the least.
However, what he had expected from his 21st birthday was an entirely normal day. Certainly not a disheveled, malnourished teenager, who was quite possibly insane and a bit murderous, to teleport into his living room and claim to be a princess.
