Like losing his mentor wasn't enough it had to take a normal working nervous system from him as well. Years later he's been able to keep it under wraps but it seemed a certain medical student was going to put the pieces together soon.

It was no secret that Dennis admired his attending. Was it from a far? Maybe not to far but ever since that day in pedes he worried about the guy. Which was how he noticed that Robby was taking more breaks than normal today and for some reason Dr. Abbot kept throwing salt packets at him.

Obi-Wan snores lightly into his pillow. Early sunrise light filters into the room through the blinds. The temple is quiet, save for the low bustle of Coruscant traffic. It's perfectly peaceful. Until it isn't.
The door slides open and the pitter patter of small feet against the floor. There's a dip in the mattress and suddenly a heavy weight has landed on his back. He groans into the pillow as small children giggle.
"Uncle Obi-Wan!" a small boy exclaims. "You have to wake up!"

Jack tries to stay strong in the face of his worst nightmare. The shooting reminds both Jack and Robby how short life is.

“It’s going to be fine,” Jack promises him, as if he can promise him that. “Flu’s not taking you down, is it?”
“Guess it’s your job to make sure it doesn’t,” Robby replies. Despite the verbal blows Jack just aimed right into his ribs, he still feels bad for the way Jack’s face drains of color once he’s said it. “Jack—”
“Go lay down before it starts,” Jack instructs him, and Robby recognizes Dr. Abbot taking over in more ways than one. “I’ll come check on you in an hour, alright?”
For one more heartbeat, Jack doesn’t move. Again, Robby feels the pang down the center of his chest into his stomach that simultaneously tells him to kiss him and reminds him that he can’t.
or: robby catches a deadly flu in the pitt while treating patients. jack is his only hope for survival.

When his phone rang loud in the stillness, waking Jack from the sleep of the dead he'd perfected in war zones half a world away, he sat straight up in bed and knew: something was wrong.
His phone announced it was Dana—and it was 0721—which shot a little thrum of worry through him as he answered. "What happened?" he asked, no preamble. She wouldn't wake him if shit hadn't gone sideways.
"Robby hasn't come in yet and he's not answering his phone," she said, voice grim. "He's never missed a shift without calling." She spoke quietly, probably standing in the middle of the ED, trying to keep up a brave face for everyone else. As much as she could, anyway. People tended to notice when the fucking chief attending didn't show up to work.
