There was a bright red string looped around Ratio’s left pinky finger, clear as a sunny day, that was the very same string tied around Aventurine’s pinky.--
Aventurine and Dr. Ratio are assigned together to an ordinary debt collection job on Nefesh-II, a planet which follows the Path of Equilibrium. However, the red string of fate connecting their fingers makes their situation anything other than ordinary.

Of course he wants to die.
He wants to die just as much as he wants to live. Just as he is now devil and human, just as Angel is both beautiful and monstrous. Aki swallows the smoke and it kills him a little, just as it makes life a little more liveable in return. That's how it's been for most of his life.
"That's not what this is about," he says simply, unable to explain it.
Alive, Aki has survived by selling away his heart. Alive, Angel's memories have come back along with guilt. They find solace and understanding in the only person who sees them for what they are.

A second later, Angel splashes down in the water next to him. He looks around wildly, trying to make sense of what is happening. The Gun Devil is frozen mid-heave, about to bellow a cry of war. The birds are motionless in the sky.
Frantically, he recalls the contract he made. The Eternity Devil. That fucking bastard. Of all the moments to pick, it had to pick his very last one.
