He’s known that since he had asked if that was something Curly would want after the first month they’d been doing this; this meaning the hook-ups, and spending entire days together, and holding each other while they slept. Curly had laughed, a short and dismissive sound, and made some joke about Ponyboy reading too many romance novels.

He stared at the blood pooling under the Soc. Red. Pony had always liked red.
The reality of it didn’t really hit him until he remembered what happens to people like him. To murderers. He had killed him. He had actually killed him. People that kill other people get sent to the chair. He didn’t want to have to go to the chair. But there were too many witnesses for him to be able to just hide the body and move on. Fuck. Fuck. He would have to get out of here.
He needed money, a place to stay, a plan. Mark spluttering brought him out of his thinking.
“Mark, I killed him. I killed that boy.”

Summary
Johnny gets the nerve to sit and stand on shaking legs. Pony’s legs dangle from the side of the fountain, unmoving and still, his converse just brushing the concrete. There is coldness that envelops Johnny’s heart and soul, and he feels his eyes go wide and white.
“What did you do to him?” Johnny asks in a tough, but shaking voice. “What did you do?”
Bob looks at him. He looks at the other Socs. He looks back at Johnny. “He had it coming.”
Johnny feels sick and cold inside. “No, no, you-- he’s fourteen. He’s fourteen!”
The other Socs don’t even stay long enough to hear Bob’s commands do Johnny in, too. They just tear Bob away with blank, pale faces. Bob laughs in a sick, twisted way. Johnny vomits up popcorn and Pepsi and forces his legs to move forward.~

There's an odd determined glow to his eyes as Ponyboy runs his fingers through his hair. "Jail — I know jail would turn Johnny into something else. If you went in — "
"If I went in, I wouldn't blame nobody. Not as long as you're there for me," the words are drowsy, heavy and he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. "I love you, Dally. That's what matters."
September, 1965 — Johnny and Dallas live. That doesn't make things any easier for Ponyboy, not with his omega dynamic singling him out, his best friend dealing with life long injuries now, his family life still a tightrope he has to navigate, a court case on the horizon that will decide his fate, and his growing, mutual attraction to Dallas Winston getting stronger by the day.
What he doesn't know is that more people are in his corner than he thinks. And that maybe, things will be okay.
