Summary
Just their luck: Garak and Bashir are stranded together on an uninhabited alien planet. Over months, a mission for survival and a need to share body heat on chilly nights evolves into comfortable domesticity, with physical contact given and received whenever craved. But all perfect things must of course be ruined: their rescue team arrives. Only then do Garak and Bashir realise how intimate they’ve become without realising, and suddenly their shared urge to show gratuitous affection seems inappropriate as friends. But they can’t give it all up, now... can they?

Summary
It had been 3 weeks. 3 inexplicably long weeks since he’d last picked up Julian’s scent. His Cardassian genes were screaming for it, finally slaked when he inhaled. He held his breath at its apex, lungs blissfully filled with unadulterated Julian Bashir. Garak’s psyche unraveled under a rush of possessive lust - he never wanted to exhale again, just wanted to keep this piece of his dear doctor within him forever. Only when his vision began to blur at the edges did he relinquish his breath, lifting his face to press his cranial ridges against Julian’s forehead.
“Kiss me.” Garak rasped, a desperate command. No lilt, no subtext, only need.
Julian’s breath hitched, taking in the truly primal expression on Garak’s face. “Uh huh.” he nodded, pulling Garak by the collar of his tunic until their lips crashed together. It was perfectly messy, all teeth and growling and muffled groans.
It was going to be one of those nights - a filthy, rough, indecent kind of night.

Summary
The funeral was insufferably hot. Of course, it would be. Bashir wore all black, a mourning suit in the traditional Cardassian style that Garak had made for him years ago to attend his first state funeral as the Castellan’s spouse. He wondered if, in the back of his mind, Garak had known Bashir would someday wear it to this very occasion.
He was sweating entirely too much for such a somber event. The black fabric drew the heat of the suns, and he was beginning to feel lightheaded by the time they finally adjourned.
He sat on the steps of the funeral home, and Jeri brought him some cold water to drink and fanned him ineffectually with a floral arrangement. Smoke was rising from the crematorium.
He’s really gone.
***
In which Garak and Bashir never mended their relationship from the wartime wounds, rushed into a politically-motivated marriage, and broke each other’s hearts. Oh, and Garak fakes his own death. Don’t worry, the story does get happier.

Summary
"I tried," Father added, hoarse. "Tried to fix it."
Garak swallowed. It was unreasonably difficult to do it. His heart was hammering in his chest; his mind was oddly blank. He felt excruciatingly aware of Julian, unmoving, leaning against the far wall—of the weight of Julian's eyes on him. But he'd told Father they were alone. He could not tell him to stop, could offer him no excuse for failing to respond as he must expect—
"Is that what you were doing," Garak said, very softly.

Summary
Garak and Julian work to get the measure of one another, each of them trying to see what's hidden under the other man's skin.
Once upon a time, Julian imagined he might do better on a planet other than Earth, that he was a sort of modern-day changeling child, abandoned on a planet he wasn't fit for.
It cut at the time that it wasn't true - it cuts all the deeper when, some years down the line, Earth sees fit to abandon him to someone else's planet after all.
