Summary

Shirogane’s smile only widens, touching his eyes as it pulls at their corners.
“Takashi.” He says the name easily as he pulls his hand away, instead taking Keith’s empty flute from his hand and dropping both their glasses on a passing tray.
“What?” In a moment of breathlessness, he forgets to add strength behind the word and he’s certain Shirogane’s missed it.
“My name is Takashi.” Takashi Shirogane. The name makes his veins sizzle as it spins around his mind, until he is almost dizzy with it. Lost to the repeating track, Keith almost misses the expectant look leveled on him.
“Keith,” he finally manages as he swallows down the bright taste tickling the back of his tongue. Shirogane’s smile only brightens.
“Now we aren’t strangers,” he replies, offering his hand. “Dance with me.”

Truthfully, Shiro would be lying if he said he never noticed how beautiful Keith is, both inside and out. But Keith has never shown any interest in romance of any kind, so Shiro shelved that idea years ago and hasn’t allowed himself to revisit it since.
He’s ready for his own romance now, though. He’s not lonely, per se— he has Keith and their friends, his flowers, and his customers. He’s actually pretty happy. But he’d be happier if he could find someone to come home to at night after a long day of work. He’d be happier with someone he could kiss and hold hands with and— yeah, he misses sex. So the idea of a Valentine’s Day masquerade ball may seem silly, and he’s not exactly expecting to find the love of his life there, but he’s ready to put himself out there and see what may happen.

“You got a haircut.”
Keith freezes, one arm halfway out of his coat sleeve. It’s the brown one with the plaid lining, the one that doesn’t match anything else he owns, but is too practical to get rid of. He pulls it off his other arm and holds it tight to his chest. Shakes his head.
“Not recently?”
Shiro frowns.
Keith dips forward and doesn’t shiver when curious fingers tangle in the hair at the back of his neck. Shiro’s palm feels large on the back of his skull as his fingers fist, gentle, into Keith’s hair, and then relax. He pulls them free, expression thoughtful. Keith watches through his bangs as he straightens up.
“Been like that for awhile,” he smiles, apologetic.
Shiro smiles back, tightness between his brows crumbling to an open kind of trust. “Huh. I must’ve… gotten mixed up.”
