Mikey was sitting on the floor with a little Donnie who taking apart the toaster with all its pieces spread over the ground of the lab. Donnie, in all his toddler glory, didn’t look apologetic at all as he clumsily twisted a much too large screwdriver in his tiny hands.
“You’re the one that said we had to keep an eye on him,” Mikey pointed out.
“When I said that, I didn’t mean let him take the toaster apart,” Leo narrowed his eyes at his youngest brother.

Two months after their final fight with the Shredder, the Hamato family is stretched thin. With their home recently destroyed, Leo's sudden 'promotion' to leader, and everyone trying to adjust to all the sudden change, tensions are unquestionably high.
They're particularly high between one red and one blue turtle--but this story ain't about them.
Read this brief peek into the goings-on of Mikey and Donnie as they try to find a reprieve from pointless arguments and an overwhelming workload by *shuffles and squints at papers* flying through the streets of New York City and vandalism? Yeah, that sounds about right.
A.k.a, Donnie and Mikey say "fuck it, we ball" and have a nice day filled with fun, comfort, and brotherly bonding with a dash of angst. Y'know, for a little dazzle.

Raphael was trembling, already tearing up again. He was shaking with the force of his growl, and his eyes only seemed to sharpen when they locked with Splinter's.
Leonardo's snarling had been in-the-moment, defensive paranoia. Splinter was interchangeable from everyone else— all he had wanted was to get away, to hide, not to hurt. Raphael knew exactly who he was looking at, and he was furiously protective anyway.
He was not afraid to hurt him if he had to, to protect the boys that it had always been Splinter's duty to protect.
Splinter could not help but feel like he had done something irreconcilably wrong.
(or: the boys are hit by pollen that heightens their paranoia. to take care of them, splinter is forced to confront some uncomfortable truths about them; and more importantly, about himself.)

Donnie straightened, reading the words a second time. A third time. He rubbed at his eyes to make sure he read it correctly. There was no way. The serum was making complete sense in his brain and it was only exciting him further.
“No way,” Donnie breathed. Pieces of the puzzle were beginning to click in his brain. “Oh, no fucking way.”
“I think I know you well enough to say you’re scaring me,” Casey said.
“I’m a genius,” Donnie said. “I mean, I know that. It’s undeniable at this point, but I am feeling so affirmed right now, because I just. I did that, Casey. I just…”
Casey blinked at him. “Please clarify?”
Donnie didn’t. He let the silence stretch so the pieces could fall into place, beginning to shake with excitement. He could go where no man had gone before, fix Casey’s problems like he desperately wanted to, and most importantly, break the laws of nature.
“Donnie?” Casey’s voice was small, because he’d spent enough time around a Donatello to know that face.
He had an idea.

The events of the Shredder left its mark on the Hamato Family. Quite literally in Donnie's case, with the gashes marring his softshell. While Leo is able to patch that up, Raph can't shake his own anxiety that something will go wrong.
And given that Donnie is refusing to comply with the demands put into play for his own safety, his worries might not be unfounded this time.

Summary
A collection of one-shots taking place in a miniature alternate universe where the only thing that is different is that Donnie is a nonspeaking autistic. The overall show plot is the same, his personality is the same, and his brothers treat him the same. They stan acceptance in their Lair (outside of it... there are no promises). The one-shots will be in chronological order.
I will say this, all ableism in this series is WRONG and BAD and NOT SUPPORTED. Donnie does not need to change or be 'fixed'. Just because he can't speak conventionally doesn't mean he's a problem. He just needs to stand with the right people.
Currently, there is no overarching story planned. Just heavy usage of AAC.
And yes, there will be angst/whump because I will milk his 'tism for that no matter what form it takes.
(series created/written by a speaking autistic with too many dumb ideas-- not intended to offend anyone, and if it's a true issue, then the author is willing to take it down)

Summary
Time runs differently in each dimension. What was only ten minutes for Casey back home was hours for Raph, days for Mikey, a month for Leo. Don got stuck in his dimension a little longer- until the time staff deemed that he had done what he needed to do there, namely rebuilding the world from the ground up. When he's returned to his dimension it's more than a little difficult to adjust to having a family again.

OR: Future Donnie has to bite the bullet and ask his not-family for help to save the world. It’s sweeter than it sounds, sometimes.
