Summary
On the last day of school before Christmas vacation, Mr. Castiel Quinn discovers that one of his young students has smuggled male pornography into the classroom. Upon being told that the photos belong to the boy's uncle, Castiel vows to himself that he will keep the other man's preferences a secret. It's 1947; a man experiencing attraction to another man or fantasising about his sexual touch are transgressive faults, which could potentially result in imprisonment - or worse. But then the uncle walks in. The photos are of him: Dean Winchester, a rogue with an empty pocket and a child to feed. Castiel doesn't know it yet, but his life is never going to be the same again. Years pass between chance meetings, but even though they live their lives apart, Dean and Castiel's story is proof that absence truly does make the heart grow fonder.

Written for the ficwip February challenge 'hey, sweetheart' and combined with a Tumblr ask prompt!
“You’ll be here all week? Terrible that you’re workin’ on Valentine’s Day,” Doris tuts disapprovingly, “you ought to be spendin’ it with your special someone.”
“I ain’t got a special someone right now,” Dean assures her kindly, leaning back in his chair, tapping the table that separates him from Doris and her husband, “and I don’t mind working.”
“Well, of course you do!” Doris exclaims.
“I work most holidays, I really don’t mind –”
“No, you’ve got a special someone,” Doris corrects, eyeing him critically, smirking in a way that crinkles all of her many wrinkles, “a woman like me can tell.”

Summary
In the Empty, you relive your regrets. But the worlds that it has dropped Castiel into aren’t familiar to him. Over and over, it sends him into universes he doesn’t recognize, although he expects that they exist — or existed — in some form or another.
Dean is always there, but it’s not his Dean, and maybe that’s the Empty’s point. What it offers him, if he’ll just be quiet, if he’ll just behave… it’s nice, it’s what he never thought he could have in reality, but it’s not real. It’s not Dean.
But when he finds himself in a world that looks like the Empty itself — a dark, eternal void — Castiel is confused. This isn’t some corner the Empty can try to tuck him away in, so long as he’s willing to accept a life he knows isn’t quite real. This feels different, more genuine.
And the version of Dean that comes to rescue him… he feels real, too.

Summary
Dean takes a really, really long drive to kick fear in the ass. It might just be the best thing he ever decides to do.
~~~
The seat squeaks, and Dean follows the sound, his gaze trailing down. There—where Jack sat moments ago—is a much tinier version of him. He looks mostly the same, just...smaller and more dimply and cuter, if that's possible. His clothes have shrunk to fit him, so he's casually sitting in a t-shirt, jeans, and scuffed tennis shoes. He swings his feet from side-to-side over the edge of Baby's seat the same way Sam used to in the back, and he stares up at Dean with clear eyes.
"Oh," Dean blurts out, eyes bulging, "Cas is going to fucking kill me."
Summary
Eight days after Cas comes back from The Empty, Dean and Cas make the decision to date, for one month. One month only.
Of course, in another world Castiel can imagine Dean loving the post, were he not involved. He would flag Castiel down sitting at the kitchen table or perhaps one of the couches, and he would say something like, “Hey, Cas, listen to this. Am I the asshole. Listen.” Dean would clear his throat then continue, reading from his phone, “I, 4.543 billion years old, male, recently broke up with my boyfriend, 42 years old, male. We had dated exactly one month, which we agreed to when we started the relationship. The relationship was quite good, as far as I’m aware, and lasted 30 full days. I broke up with him on day 30, as agreed. Now he is angry at me. I have to assume that this is because I broke up with him. Reddit dot com, am I the asshole for breaking up with him, even though we did agree to a month-long relationship?”
Critical mass - the smallest amount of fissile material needed for a sustained nuclear chain reaction. When k=1, the mass is critical.
The phrase, "bickering like an old married couple," took on a totally new - and more annoying - meaning once the gates of Heaven and Hell were closed.
Summary
Years after Cas’ death, Dean is a retired hunter who’s now mostly known for his bitchin’ pies, quick mechanical work and the patchwork of tattoos that litter his body that tell a mournful story of a life lost to powers greater than him. Having spent his time since losing Cas and defeating Chuck learning to live again, Dean’s perfectly carved out little slice of life is thrown for a loop when the supposedly dead angel and the would-be God show up at his doorstep on the fifth anniversary of Cas’ death, both very much alive. Jack; just a child. Cas; just a man.
Summary
“We’re supposed to be out of the life, Cas,” Dean says. “And Sam just brought it home. So, what, now we’re just gonna raise the kid? Hope that we’re better parents than our dads were so he doesn’t grow up wanting to destroy the world?”
“He’ll just be a baby,” Cas murmurs. “Can’t we give this child the benefit of the doubt? A chance, at least, to make his own choices?”
Dean shakes his head. “The whole thing just scares me. I don’t know how to protect you guys. What if something happens to Sam, or to Claire, or to you?”
“Nothing will happen to us,” Cas promises. “Have some faith.”
Summary
There is this house, and the people who live in it and turn it into a home, and there is this salt of the earth life that somehow Cas has been worthy enough to earn. Every day it teaches him something new.
It could overwhelm him, if he dared let it. This, the irrefutable truth that he is human now and that his days consist of habitual things. Sometimes it does, he thinks, on the days where there’s a pressure that makes his head ache and his eyes hurt. Sometimes it startles him how much everything could have changed in the span of just one ordinary, human year. But those are also the days, it seems, when Claire knows to laugh a little more brightly, or where Sam looks at him with a happy glint in his eye, or where Dean kisses his temple in the exact spot where the pressure is the worst, and Cas forgets about the headaches at all.
It does overwhelm him. But it also liberates him, and that’s a far more powerful feeling.
Summary
By the time everyone else calls it a night and heads off to bed, it's well past midnight. Eileen is the last to go, pressing a kiss to the top of Sam's head before she smiles and leaves the map room. Sam smiles up at her, his eyes a little watery like they have been every time he's looked at Eileen since she came back. Dean grins a little, watching them. And his heart aches a little, too.
Sam looks carefully at him after Eileen leaves. Dean can feel himself starting to bristle slightly. Sam's been giving him that look almost non-stop, ever since he and Jack came bursting into the Bunker to find Dean huddled on the storeroom floor with blood on his jacket and his head in his hands.
Summary
Dean's phone doesn't ring on the drive back to the Bunker, but that's okay. Because—well, maybe Cas lost his cell, what with getting shuffled back and forth between a cosmic void dimension and all. And anyway, Dean doesn't want this conversation to happen over the phone, he wants to—he wants to talk to Cas face-to-face. They should talk face-to-face.
Dean will tell him—
Dean doesn't know what he'll tell Cas. Dean is, in fact, terrified by how utterly and completely he does not know what he'll say to Cas.
A high-stakes game of ‘gay chicken’ and the easiest $300 Cas thinks he’ll ever make.
“I bet that you couldn’t go around letting people think we were a couple without correcting them,” Cas says, grinning. "I bet you a hundred dollars that you couldn’t last two weeks."
“You know what, screw it, I could do with a laugh,” Dean says. "So what, we pretend to be a couple for two weeks or until one of us cracks?"
“Until you crack.”
