Summary
Spock eyed the blinking light for a moment. He shouldn't listen to the message now, not with his mind being so out of control. The logical thing to do would be to delay until a further date but Spock was not feeling very logical. Curiosity urged him onwards, so he played the recording.
It was audio-only.
"If you are receiving this message then it is because I have met my end. Or the automatic protocol has broken, in which case remind me to fix it immediately."
The warm sound of Hemmer's laughter echoed around the ruined quarters, Spock's lips twitched towards a smile - this time he let them.
Or a missing scene where Spock receives a pre-recorded message from Hemmer following the engineer's death.

Cadet L/N is new to the crew of the Enterprise and is going through the rounds of hazing and meeting all kinds of new people. One person sticks out in particular, Chief Engineer Hemmer. After a while, you get to know him and his sarcastic demeanor becomes comforting even. So, after an accident occurs on the ship from rouge pirates, he will finally get the confidence to tell you how he feels about you.
Warnings: Pure fluff and pining, brief mention of injury but not in detail.

Summary
This is a coda to Memento Mori, the last time we see Hemmer. What's happened since then? Who knows. Maybe he's still in the cargo bay attached to that hook in an environmental suit?
In efforts to will that not to be true, I've made this fiction. No one else was making Hemmer fiction so why not? Hence the title "I'll Just Do It Myself" which has nothing to do with the fiction and everything to do with a Hemmer fan desperately wanting more Hemmer content.
You're welcome to all five of you.
I probably should have allowed this a sit overnight to be edited more but I wanted to get it out before the next episode tomorrow. Just in case we have a Hemmer sighting...
