She already had issues under the surface when she went off to magical boarding school and became possessed by the Diary of Tom Riddle at age eleven. After Harry saves her in the chamber everyone just assumes she’s fine and that things are back to normal. She’s not. She never gets the help she really needs to recover from the trauma of her possession and the things she did under Tom’s influence, which may not be completely gone.
She tried to be good, normal, she really did. But the urge to hurt, to dominate, to control, becomes stronger and stronger each day. Before the start of her second year at Hogwarts, a friend helps her discover that sexual release is the only thing that makes her feel almost normal again.
By the time she's in her fifth year, she’s seduced male and female classmates from every Hogwarts house into her service in an effort to keep the urges contained. Ultimately she decides that people her own age just can’t cut it anymore and sets her sights on someone older.
