Summary
In the mid-1920s the prohibition is in full swing and New Orleans is filled with speakeasies and bootleg liquor trade. People wanting to hide from the law make prime pickings for the city’s serial killer – only, it seems Rosie isn’t the only serial killer on the streets.
After a nerve-wracking encounter with a masked man while on a hunt, Rosie must decide how to proceed, if she should do anything about it at all. She’s busy trying to manage new disasters in her home life anyway; when Franklin’s life-long friend, Vox, brings around a new paramour who doesn’t meet Franklin’s standards, he takes his frustration out on his wife. Suddenly Rosie must navigate a budding friendship in both her day and night life and the minefield her marriage has become. The streets of New Orleans are as dangerous as ever – but is her own home any better?

Summary
"You're mommy's brave little girl, aren't you?"
Charlie wanted so badly to be so she nodded and did as asked. She watched her mother disappear into the darkness and waited.
And kept waiting.
The song of the bayou played around Charlie and her trembling fingers clutched the hem of her shirt tightly as she tried not to imagine glowing eyes creeping closer around her, silent tears streaking her cheeks.
Finally she could take it no more and with a sob she raced back the way they'd come.
"Mommy!"

For reasons known only to her, Lilith leaves Lucifer and, to keep him from having Charlie, abandons her in the middle of the Louisiana bayou. Who should find her but one deeply annoyed serial killer finishing dumping a body? Unable to leave a crying little girl to the alligators but equally unwilling to risk his secret being found out, Alastor takes her home and enlists Rosie's help to raise her.
A frantic Lucifer spends years searching for his daughter, refusing to believe that she had been swallowed by the bayou the night his wife left him.

Summary
The worst part about molting was the itching. It was terrible while his wings were out, but when they were tucked away the itching spread to his skin, like the molt needed to manifest itself physically in one way or another. Lucifer often left his molt until he couldn’t bear it anymore, too overwhelmed by the task to force himself to face it until the alternative was worse.
The truth was he hated looking at his wings. They were a constant reminder of heaven, of his fall; once pure white, they were now stained with the blood of the first sinner. He still remembered that day clearly, when some of his elder siblings had come to fetch him and Lucifer thought he’d been forgiven, that he could come home - but instead they pinned him to the ground and soaked him in Abel’s blood and the stains had never truly come out. That first molt he thought he would finally be rid of it but he was wrong - some of his white plumage returned, but only along the lesser coverts, and the tenth primaries. The rest of his feathers grew in that brilliant, terrible red, as vivid as the day he’d seen it spilled upon the ground.

Dream’s expression soured and he looked away. “I’d rather not speak of it.”
“Normally I’d let it go, but by now you’ve admitted we’re friends, and I think I deserve an explanation for being stood up.”
After a long pause Dream said, “You are right.” It was several more moments before he spoke again. “I was captured and held by a man named Roderick Burgess.”
“But Burgess died in the forties,” Hob said, brow furrowing.
Dream said nothing.

Arin had never really been particularly smart - she certainly wasn't stupid, just average really - and she was definitely naive. She'd also elected to walk after dark with both her headphones in, listening to loud music to drown out the night. That's really all she could remember.
That and what came next.
She started to cross the street when suddenly there was a flash of light, the rancid smell of burning rubber, and a sharp pain in her neck.

“Jon!” Martin sprang to his feet and gently pushed Jon back down. “Don’t move, you’re still recovering from the infection.”
Jon flinched away from him, trying to twist free but crying out again and finally allowing himself to sink back into the pillows. His wide eyes darted wildly around. “Michael! Where’s Michael? He- he took Helen, he-”
Martin’s brow furrowed. “Jon, I know, that was years ago. Take a breath and relax, we’re safe here.”
“Martin?” Jon asked, hands reaching for him. “Is the power out?”
“What? No.”
“Why is it so dark? Why can’t I see?” his tone turned accusatory. “What did you do to me?”
Martin’s stomach sank. “J-Jon, I didn’t do anything. What do you mean, you can’t see?”
