I had never planned to abandon this work, despite my frequent delays and slow progress. Unfortunately, even though I’ve had the first draft of chapter 7 completed for some time, I do not see myself ever feeling capable of returning to this story.
I’d like to dedicate this work to my dear friend and beta-reader, SkellaRad, who passed away in May of 2022. He was a source of great encouragement for me, and it would feel wrong to continue this work without his guidance and input.

Nearly two years had passed since the Emersons had staked Max and his droogs, and just about everyone had moved on with their lives. They didn’t talk about Max, and they sure as hell didn’t talk about David and his gang. Most days, it was as though the events of that summer had never even happened, but Michael couldn’t forget. As a new summer drew near, he found himself growing restless, his nightmares becoming more vivid, and a familiar voice growing in volume, beckoning him out into the night.

Hank knows that machines can't care or fear or be hurt. Connor agrees but for some reason that pisses Hank off... There's something not right about CyberLife's involvement with the police and there's something not right about Connor. The sooner he can get rid of him the better.
Connor is finally in beta testing after rigorous optimization and validation. "Outside" is full of colours and smells. People say things that don't mean what they sound like they mean. Androids are meant to make life easier for humans, but not all humans are happy about it. The mission is most important though. Once he has passed beta testing he will be perfect- Amanda said so- therefore he must be perfect to pass beta. He'll finally be good enough and worthy of all of the time and money CyberLife has spent on him.

With his face deeply buried in dirty linen sheets—he had been hit by a wave of fatigue close to dusk and slept in until 3pm—the stray reminder of his check-up is making itself known by the shrill sound of his phone alarm shaking him up and out of bed. His gums itch and tracing the outline of his pain with his tongue reveals itself to be yet another failed attempt at keeping his humanity in check as his mouth fills itself with half-vampiric blood from the fresh wound on his pierced tongue. Those fangs are gonna be a pain in his ass, it's the only thing he's one-hundred percent sure of after what had happened. Resisting the odd sensation to swallow it down, he spits it out onto the ground and grimaces at it as he makes his way into his bathroom to, at least, attempt to freshen up before his appointment.
He already looks like a corpse.

The RK900 unit escaped all on his own from Cyberlife, he deviated all on his own, he learned to hate and fear humans all on his own. He's witnessed a crime though and was witnessed in turn, so while he avoids a Cyberlife technician who wants to undo deviancy he also has to decide whether or not to turn to the DPD for help and to help Gavin Reed on the case.
