Wolfwood expected… a lot of things to happen when he accepted the mission.
He expected the usual fare of “Find the demon, exorcise the demon, get chewed up for destroying half the city, cash in, finished”, he expected being stuck in this god forsaken city for a few weeks, looking for a myth, not finding anything, taking another week off to go on a paid vacation and then coming back and getting chewed out for shrinking his duties.
He expected nothing out of the ordinary.
Well.
Nicholas Dangerous Wolfwood will be the first man to say that he might have fucked up. Big time.
Roberto will never let him live this down, not to mention Millie.
How exactly is he supposed to explain that he might have bound himself to a demon? And it would have been fine if it had been the usual run of the mill demon! Shoot the fucker, bond dissolved, no one needs to know, but no.
It’s not just any demon, it’s Vash the motherfucking Stampede. The very same thing he was supposed to find and exorcise.
Who also saved his life, chained his life force to Wolfwood to get them out of a tight spot and maybe, just maybe, might be the most adorable demon in existence.
So yeah.Wolfwood fucked up.

“Then perhaps it’s fate that we ran into each other,” the priest chuckled. Vash was all too aware of the way his chest shook as he did (why was his shirt unbuttoned so far down? To Nico, Haven is home. He might not remember his past or the kind of person he was before he stumbled into Haven’s welcoming arms, but he’s happy. Sometimes, he’s not sure he wants to know any of that seeing as his first memory is digging himself out of the grave. But when Vash the Stampede comes to town, he raises all kinds of questions about who Nico really is and he’s determined to get answers. Even if the idiot keeps trying to dodge him.
A story about finding home, rediscovering love, and finally using your blank ticket to the future.

The Zack Cloud remembered was straight-up handsy. Always there to put a balancing hand to the middle of Cloud's back when he stumbled, or tugging Cloud eagerly along by the hand; casually directing him with a touch on the waist, squeezing his shoulder when Cloud began to tense, knocking their sides together when Zack could feel Cloud’s anxiety starting to spike. And always, always stepping in front of Cloud in battle, unerringly protective.
Zack comes back. He isn't the same.

And Sephiroth thought he couldn’t be any more shocked than he already was, but that was before the man angled his sword and in one quick motion, tossed Sephiroth -- the 1st Class SOLDIER, The Silver General, The Demon of Wutai -- to the floor like it was nothing.
Or: Cloud is sent back to a time when Sephiroth isn’t insane. He has to choose between killing a sane man to save the world, or spare him and risk the demise from his timeline.
