Summary
Even doesn’t really need a bot.
What he needs is an actor. One who won’t bitch about the concept or the lighting or quit suddenly to follow a hook-up to Barcelona.
He won’t be cruel or irresponsible. Even just has to make some films again soon before he forgets how or gets too scared to.
Later on, when the Bot is sitting on the living room couch, one hand, soft and unexpectedly gentle, at his thigh, Even will think, shit.
It’s more than that.
He’d been lonely.

Summary
It’s the damn miracles. Isak could potentially get over his aversion to gingerbread latte in time. Steel himself against Deck the Halls! assaulting his ears on a daily basis. Perhaps even learn to ignore the fact that he’s contractually obligated to wear ugly-ass Christmas jumpers to work. He’ll never be OK with the miracles though: carefully scheduled, flawlessly executed, photogenically staged, they make his gut churn with raw anger.

It’s his turn, and Isak is not sure how he feels about that. It’s too late to pull out though, so he gets on with it. The bottle spins and spins and spins before getting slower, wobbling about as if to draw things out. And then it stops moving and of course, like the self-destructive compass needle that is Isak’s heart, the bottle neck points directly at Even.
The room is oddly hushed, or maybe it’s just that Isak’s sense of hearing is signing off, capitulating to the overwhelming thrum of his heartbeat. Isak raises his gaze from the bottle and takes Even in, filing away all the little tells so that he can later revisit them in his mind: how Even draws himself up a little taller, rolling back his shoulders as if his cardigan is suddenly too tight. He is smiling at Isak with slightly pursed lips, eyebrows raised in a silent challenge.
Even likes this, Isak realizes. Even likes games and ambiguity, and he likes the idea of kissing Isak in front of all these people – an easy, thoughtless pleasure, free of the gravity that would attach to a kiss shared just between the two of them.
Isak rises smoothly to his feet and takes a step towards Even. Another one. There’s the smallest flush now under Even’s fair, fine-textured skin. He unfolds his legs as if to make room for Isak, leans forward a little like he’s eager to have him close.
Isak winks at Even. Then, with great deliberation, he lifts his foot and nudges the bottle: “Whoops.”
Emma giggles with delight as Isak crouches down beside her. He lifts her chin with two fingers and leans in. It’s easy: having kissed far too many people with zero emotional investment, Isak has had plenty of time to hone his technique.

Summary
Sometimes, Even’s mind feels like a mess, and it seems like no one in the world can sort it out, especially not Even himself.
But there are no rules, with Isak.

Bookmarker's Notes
There are no rules, with Isak.
And Even’s not used to that. There’s barely anything but rules when he’s with Sonja, it’s all don’t do that and don’t say that and stop acting this way and he thought that maybe if he tried hard enough, he could get used to it, but then Isak comes into the picture.
It all happens fast, so fast.
And Isak kisses Emma while looking him straight in the eye, then pretends he doesn’t know him when they pass each other by in the corridor, follows Even with his gaze in the schoolyard and pushes him into the pool for making fun of him and then —
And when Even kisses him, Isak answers, and it sends a shiver down his spine and makes the spark inside his chest turn into fire, an electric, urgent feeling, and Isak’s fingers burn where he grips Even’s forearms and his lips burn against his own.
There’s something Even knows, and he thinks Isak knows that, too — it will leave imprints, this moment.

The guy curses again, and Even groans, trying to burrow further into his pillows.
“What are you doing?” He finally says, his voice hoarse. “Come back to bed.”
He’s too tired and gross to deal with this shit right now. All he wants is for the dude to get back into bed or get the hell out so Even can sleep. It’s been too long since he slept properly, and last night is the first time he’s managed to drop off that fast in weeks—since he got to UiO, if he’s being honest with himself. Like, the orgasm probably helped, but still. He’s kind of mad to have been woken up.
The guy—Isak. Even remembers his name, suddenly. It’s Isak. The guy turns to look at him like a deer in headlights, and Even mentally congratulates himself for a second, because damn. It wasn’t just the weed and beer talking last night, then. This guy is exactly Even’s type. He almost wishes they’d been sober and awake enough to do more than sloppily jerk each other off and fall asleep.
Isak doesn’t look like he’s having the same thoughts.
“Fuck you,” he mumbles, looking away from Even. He looks mortified—worse than mortified, really, something raw that Even can’t really place—fumbling around for his clothes in the mess of Even’s room. He pulls a shoe from under Even’s bed, and shoves it on, hopping around until he finds the other. He shoots even a wary look from under his ridiculous long eyelashes.
Even groans again.
Well, if that’s how he’s going to be, Even is going back to sleep. The kid can go fuck himself.
Even turns over, burying his head under a pillow and getting comfortable. It smells like the boy’s shampoo, but it’s cool against his face.

“Did you just try to bribe me?” Even asked with a laugh, running his fingers through his hair to try to distract himself from just how adorable Isak looked.
Isak shrugged. “I don’t know. Was it working?” Fuck yes it was working, that was the damn problem. Isak took another step forward, about to crash into Even again, but he pushed him back before he could get too far.
“No, Isak,” he commanded. “There is a line.” He gestured down to the tile floor half-heartedly and Isak looked down with him, brows furrowed in confusion. When he saw nothing, he looked back up, a question in his eyes. “There is a line and we can’t cross it,” Even repeated and he felt better now that Isak was a few feet away. He felt like he could think clearly again.
Isak looked down once more. “Like a physical line or…?”
Even sighed. He was completely missing the point. “Physical, metaphorical, both—I don’t know. The point is that you have to stay over there and I have to stay over here and we both have to keep our hands to ourselves.”
“Okay…” Isak mused and Even thought he might actually be starting to get through to him when he took another step forward.
“Isak,” he groaned, drawing the attention of a group of girls standing by the refrigerator. He looked over to them pointedly, but Isak just shrugged.
“I just wanted to ask you a question.”
“You can’t ask me a question from over there?”
“No,” Isak said, like Even might possibly be the dumbest person he’d ever met. “It’s a secret.”
Even rolled his eyes. “It’s a secret question?”
“Yes. Does your line let me ask you questions?” Even ducked his head in defeat. Why did he even bother? Taking his reticence as permission, Isak crossed the physical line Even had set and stepped into his personal space once more. He reached up, like he was about to bury his fists in Even’s shirt, but at a quelling look from the older boy, he dropped them. “No touching,” he said so quietly Even almost couldn’t hear him. “Got it.” Even quickly realized how dumb that rule was, however, because then Isak leaned in and whispered into his ear and the shiver it sent thought his body made it feel like he was touching him everywhere, all at once.
“Can I still picture you naked or is that crossing the line?” Even’s heart skipped a beat in his chest and Isak pulled away just a bit so that he could look into Even’s eyes. At this point, Even wasn’t sure whether Isak was just being a clueless drunk or a flirt, but he couldn’t take much more of the teasing. He really couldn’t. “Because I do, you know,” he continued.

Bookmarker's Notes
He goes back to watching Even in the trees, almost having a staring contest with him, although the look on Isak’s face is far more pleasant than Even’s.
“It’s a shame he’s so mad at us,” Isak comments. “He’d be pretty if he weren’t so angry.”
Even hears him. His eyebrows flick upwards, and his glare relaxes into a look of surprise.
Isak grins triumphantly. “There we go.”
The glare returns, and Sana elbows him in the ribs for the third time.
“You promised not to flirt,” she reminds him.
“Yeah, with your brother,” Isak replies. “That’s not your brother.”
