Summary
Evelyn Jones, wife of Vault-Tec Vice President, Nathan Jones, has a seemingly perfect life. But the mansion she lives in is a prison and long ago she learned to fear its warden. Her infant son, Shawn, is her only reason to live.
Evelyn's life is turned upside down when, as nuclear war erupts, Nathan brings her and Shawn to a cryostasis vault to wait out the apocalypse, along with the rest of Vault-Tec. She wakes over two hundred years later to a nightmare: a man with a gun demands she give him her baby. He then murders her husband and attempts to assault her, but she manages to escape. Once outside the vault, she collapses before yet another strange man pointing a gun at her. On the brink of losing consciousness, she somehow knows, without a doubt, she can trust this new man and asks for his help before everything goes dark.
Over the next year, Evelyn finds a new family, one she believed to be forever out of her reach. With the help of the soldier who saved her and through blood, sweat, and oh, so many tears, Evelyn fights to shed the chrysalis of her trauma to become Evie Dernhelm: A warrior strong enough to find the man who took her baby and get Shawn back.
