    Just as Ilya is about to lean down and kiss the next words out of Hollander’s mouth, a buzzing sound startles them both. He glances down to see Hollander’s phone vibrating on the countertop with a text notification from someone named Matty.

    In an alternate timeline, Shane resolves to move on after Sochi. When he and Ilya reunite for the MLH Awards in Vegas, Ilya takes the news of Shane's new "friend" about as well as you'd expect.

    During training week, Shane realizes he wants nothing more than to bury his knife in Ilya’s throat, and Ilya can’t seem to resist trying to provoke him into doing it.
    The problem is, that eventually, killing each other stops being the only thing they want—and the Capitol is determined to make a spectacle out of every second of it.

    Ilya is heartbroken that Shane has found someone else and makes plans to get Shane back.
    Shane doesn't let Ilya in but then..Ilya has a plan to get Shane alone and it works.

    There's an engagement and a visit to Russia that changes everything.

    OR: At Sochi, Shane meets a handsome man and an ends up accidentally engaged. Ilya was not ignoring him after Sochi but smashed his phone and couldn’t contact him. Ilya is down bad and locked into getting his man back along with a Canadian Citizenship.

    Ilya stands beside a black car, coat open despite the freezing air, broad shoulders filling the space like he owns the entire street. Men linger nearby—watching, waiting—but Shane barely notices them. His focus locks on Ilya.

    The gold cross still rests against his chest.

    Two years ago Ilya Rozanov had turned the hockey world upside down by announcing he would be retiring while he was at the top of his physical prime and at the height of the most publicized hockey rivalry of all time. What the public didn't know was he also disappeared with Shane Hollander's heart in his possession. Shane had finally had enough of staring at his ceiling wondering and got on the first plane to Moscow to an demand explanation...

    “I’ll be waiting for that, then,” James whispered, knowing he fully meant it. Couldn’t understand how true those words were.

    Regulus kept his intense gaze on him for a few breaths, or a hundred, James couldn’t tell the difference anymore, but when he looked back to the road, his right hand left the steering wheel and gripped James’ hand tightly again. “I could ruin your life. I— I will ruin your life, if you let me, James. You shouldn’t let me.”

    “I know I shouldn’t,” James admitted. “But I want you to.”
