There was an envelope on the table. It was thick paper, and closed with a golden seal.
Lance picked it up and stared at it. He knew what it was. He had already decided that he wasn’t going. He couldn’t bring himself to. He could barely bring himself to open it.
He tossed it into the trash can.

Summary
It seems like Alhaitham’s greatest joy in life aside from his books is scenting Kaveh. He’s not a bother or a hindrance in any way—heck, Kaveh finds it absolutely adorable, the way Alhaitham will try to get his hands on him for scenting—so when Kaveh is around the house, cleaning or cooking or anything of the sort, Alhaitham won’t bother him.
But the minute he sits down, Alhaitham is on him like a pack of vengeful vultures, except instead of trying to eat him, Alhaitham just keeps aggressively scenting him.
Burrows his cold nose into Kaveh’s neck and makes him yelp every time—and then pat Alhaitham on the head, because how is he not supposed to, when he’s this cute?

Summary
They get back home with little fanfare. Kaveh explains things to Alhaitham with stilted hand signs, fingers unused to signing after years of very little practice. It’s a little unnerving, how Alhaitham’s so intently focused on his hands.
What’s the most surprising, Kaveh thinks, is that he’s been bracing himself, the entire walk home, for Alhaitham making a quip about finally having some peace and quiet, about how he won’t have to hear Kaveh’s complaining until he’s cured—but Alhaitham doesn’t say a word. Only snorts as Kaveh tells him what happened, signs back a smart, “Of course something like this would happen to you,” before making Kaveh tea and setting down a bowl of snacks in front of him in the living room.

“You don’t have to say anything,” Alhaitham says, suddenly achingly aware that this is the perfect time to say it. To say I love you and finally have Kaveh concretely know his feelings for him. “I meant what I said. Do you think I would have let a stranger into my home?”
Kaveh sniffles. Throws himself onto Alhaitham again, scrambling onto his lap and curling up, fitting into Alhaitham’s arms perfectly.
“Stupid,” he mutters, “Stupid Alhaitham. I—I love you so much. You fool.”
“Besides, think of all the rent you owe me. You’ll have to stay with me forever to make up for it.”
Fuck.
