Being poor meant you had to ration, no matter how hungry you were. And when you end up living on the streets, rationing becomes second nature.

Whitaker’s got a roof over his head, living with Santos must’ve been the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Safe house, running water, heating… food.

Summary
My personal retelling of the Varian and the Seven Kingdoms rejected Tangled spinoff. I know this has been done so many times and the fandom is kinda dead, but that's not going to stop me. The first chapter is a reupload because I deleted my old fanfic when I left the fandom temporarily.
Varian Ruddiger, a young alchemist from Old-Corona, finds a diary that once belonged to his long lost mother. He goes onto a journey of self discovery, friendship, love and pain to find the eternal library. The place his mother so desperately tried to find. Along the way he makes both friend and enemies. Will they discover the eternal library and its unlimited supply of information and answers?

Hugo's eyes met with his new patient’s; Varian’s. They were cold and blue, though just as his assistant said deep down were scared of the circumstances he was in. He had dark undereyes, likely from poor sleep, and freckles everywhere on his tan face, some were more prominent and some were lighter almost as if they were stars in the night sky.
“Varian Ruddiger of Old Corona, correct?” The doctor said, observing his new patient further.
Varian only continued his cold glare, “Doctor Hugo Rottewange of Diamond Ingvarr Asylum, correct?” He responded with a mocking mimic.
OR Varian gets admitted to a mental asylum in the early 1900s and things go.. "swimmingly".

NOTE: I have added information about the psychological aspects discussed during this story, and I apologize for not adding it earlier, but I will say this; NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO BE AROUND THEIR ABUSER. This situation is an extreme, due to the nature of the crime and its psychological effects, and it is far from the best and safest option. I apologize to anyone who read this and was hurt by my negligence to discuss this.

Summary
This is my take on the idea of a Varian spin-off series of Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.
The au was presented to Disney by storyboarders Kay Ritter and Anna Lencioni who took a liking to Varian's character and decided to create a story for him in his later years; detailing the adventures he might go on and the friends he makes along the way.
I'll likely take a lot of inspiration from other fans too and I think that's what's great about vat7k, we all inspire each other with our ideas! :)
