It was a hedgehog mug, complete with a little pointy nose and a handle made to look like a flower, and she cradled it like it was a living, breathing animal. Its little black eyes stared at him playfully. James met her gaze and felt himself smiling so wide his cheeks almost ached at the expression of childlike excitement on her face. “It’s adorable,” he told her genuinely, leaning down to press a kiss to her cheek.
Wherein OFC collects mugs, and James makes her a present.

She tried to focus on his face, the crease between his eyebrows, his blue, blue eyes staring at her with concern, the way his lips moved as he asked her something. What was it? 'What’s wrong?' What is wrong? The world felt wrong. Her vision was… off. Lagging. Her heart was pounding in her chest – reflexively, she checked her pulse, but it wasn’t fast – what is this? She tried to inhale as deep as she could, but it was like there was half as much oxygen in the air as usual. He was reaching for her – when did he get up from the couch? – don’t touch me.

“Would you just lie down already?” She gave him a look, and with a sour and long-suffering expression on his face, he gingerly arranged himself on the couch, laying his head in her lap. “I don’t bite outside of the bedroom,” she said in response to his suspicious stare, and despite himself, he smiled.

The Avengers sitcom we all secretly want. Well, maybe the Avengers hour-long action dramadey we all secretly want.Multi story, multi couple series. Series order is suggested reading order (not necessarily chronological order). You'd don’t have to read them all to read one, but they do compliment (and spoil) each other. Heavy Boots of Lead contains a series summary at the beginning if you want to skip to.
Started after Winter Soldier, generally AU, but we have adapted and reimagined Ultron and Civil War for this universe.

Summary
Fear is a horrible thing. It constricts your lungs and makes it hard to breath. It beats your heart right out of your chest, makes you unable to scream for help and holds on to you for as long as it can.
Cass is all too familiar with this, because of how often fear visits her every night. She dreams of a man she doesn't know, hurting her in ways she didn't think possible. She feels whips, knives and fire and yet in the morning, she wakes with no scars the ability to convince herself it was all just a dream.
This starts to change when a man she doesn't know, yet feels like she should recognise, becomes her co-author for a play she's currently writing. There's something about him she feels like she knows, perhaps the sharp cheekbones, or the green eyes, or how every time they touch she somehow knows exactly how he is feeling. Admittedly, the man can be a bit of a prick, and the fact that he keeps calling her the wrong name doesn't exactly help, but the fact that she recognises the name makes it worse, as well as how he keeps dodging her questions every chance he can get.
