Summary
“Odysseus of Ithaca!” she screams. “If you ever put one of your goddamn babies inside of me again I will rip out this cord and I will fucking strangle you with it!” Her cheeks are bright red, her eyes blaze like a forest fire. Odysseus nods and pushes her hair away from her face.
“I know, darling.” He wipes the sweat from her forehead, then gathers up most of her hair as gently as he can before securing it with a ribbon. Then, he refreshes the cloth, squeezes out the excess, and places it on the back of her neck.
“Better?”
Penelope sighs audibly and sinks into the mattress. When she opens her eyes, the fire is still there, tempered by the cold cloth. Odysseus smiles.
“I didn’t mean what I said.”

There's a startled yip and Odysseus is face-to-face with an impossibly tiny puppy. It doesn't run away, which Odysseus counts as his first win of this trip, and cocks its head at him curiously.
The puppy is filthy, so muddy from the recent rains that its markings are almost impossible to see. It's much too young to have been separated from its mother.

Summary
Polyphemus happens to be in just the right spot to separate Odysseus from his men when they first arrive in the cave, before anyone manages to cause any harm. Xenia is invoked and respected, agreements are made, and Odysseus gets to leave with supplies and directions for the price of a few barrels of wine. Everything is good!
Except Athena appears and disavows him with teary eyes afterward. Something happened in Polyphemus' cave that makes her cut contact, and Odysseus has no idea what.

"Odysseus collapsed to his knees, his hands weak, shaking, and completely useless in keeping out any of the sounds happening around him. When the final man from the eleventh ship grew silent, Odysseus shifted, eyes locking with the God who would do such a thing. Who could do such a thing?
The question as to why- what- was on the back of his teeth before the God's eyes shifted. Poseidon’s eyes shook, going strangely blank for a brief moment before they darted over Odysseus’ head, scanning across the wreckage behind him. Then they fell to Odysseus.
Poseidon’s hand was shaking, flinging seawater haphazardly around the ship as it slowly approached the side of Odysseus’ head that was wet with blood from his head wound. Odysseus flinched away, and the hand quickly retreated.
“What have I done?” The God muttered, almost under his breath, but perfectly audible given his massive form."
Tldr;
If Poseidon was transported back to "Ruthlessness is Mercy" but remembered the events that took place in "Unspoken Thoughts" by PoutyBats.

“Hey! You can’t just punch him like that!” yelled Polites, right in front of Odysseus, trying to stop Eurylochus, who didn’t even seem interested in Polites’ words.
“You said we had to help him,” Eurylochus complained, looking annoyed, as if it were obvious, as if he hadn’t done anything wrong.
“But not like this! You can’t just go around punching people like that!” Polites argued back, clearly determined to defend his point.
“Well, it’s not like I can go around punching people,” Eurylochus replied, irritated, crossing his arms and looking away. “Turns out, when you're dead, you can’t really touch people,” he muttered, a faint blush on his cheeks. “I don’t even know how I managed to hit Ody,”
