The officer holds up a plastic cup. “Water?”
Ah—the gruff voice from before. Peter knows better than to refuse. He sits up, then shudders from his toes to his fingertips. His ribs feel like a battered marimba. He does his best to fold away the worst of the pain, crosses his legs and holds out his hand. The officer passes him the cup. Peter drinks.
“Come to play good cop, have we?” Peter asks once he’s done.
The officer plucks the empty cup out of his hand. “Pretty sure we both know that’s an oxymoron, but thanks for the vote of confidence."

Summary
Gerard Keay hadn't meant to fall in love.
He really hadn't. In fact, he actively avoided it.
So far as he was concerned, it was an unnecessary luxury that he didn't have time for. Nice, sure, but something to be enjoyed by normal people with normal lives, not people like him.
But then he met Michael.

This story is pretty much abandoned, it doesn't really end on a cliffhanger or anything and I may update it again if the mood takes me, but it will never be the Epic Romantic Tragedy I envisioned in my head. Feel free to read anyways if you want.

Summary
Suddenly free of Mary, Gerard Keay figures out his new normal. Most of that includes falling asleep together on the couch after movie nights with Michael.
“So, rough night?” Gerry asks again, sliding down next to Michael and lighting his own cigarette.
They sit there shoulder to shoulder for a few minutes before Michael leans in and rests his head on Gerry’s shoulder and sighs. Gerard takes the opportunity to fix Michael’s hair. “Wanna talk about it?” He smooths down his wild hair and what he can some behind his ears so it'll stop falling into his eyes and covering up his face.
Michael takes another drag, “I don’t know. What are you doing here anyway? I mean- n-not that I don’t want you here, it’s just that it’s kinda freezing out here and all.”
“It’s okay,” Gerry reaches back into his coat, “I was going to burn this.”
Michael raises an eyebrow, “Burning books Gerard? You do know I’m basically a librarian.”
