It’s the instinct of green life, Grian knows, that has him backing away slowly. He takes a few tiny steps backwards.
Scar looks at him, something angry and hurt in his gaze, “But I think you’ll make a good first message to the masses. You were the first to take advantage of me, after all.”

Summary
Catnap is was born, feeling nothing.
He felt cold, and everything was painful and annoying. Then the prototype gave him the option of freedom, his first salvation. But that didn't fix the frigidness of his heart. Then there was the sun, who warmed him up and let him feel. His glorious light that he had to keep for himself.
Sure there's a difference between his gracious god and his sunlight, though the dead could no longer differentiate what Catnap was thinking after a certain point, as they watched over them from the afterlife. The critters could only watch over their leader as catnap kept him from them, in the living world, like a hostage.

Summary
Catnap had one purpose.
All he remembered about his old life was his name. Whatever sense of self he had was quickly beaten out of him by years of torment. Researchers forced him to put other kids to sleep, so they could be carted off to meet the same fate that he had. By the end of it he was little more than a husk, without even a speck of goodness left inside of him.
But even still, The Prototype loved him. He guided him, nurtured him, just as a father would his child. He allowed him the honour of fighting in the Hour of Joy, and the way he praised him afterwards is permanently etched into Catnap's brain.
To be loved was a debt he could only repay through a lifetime of worship- even if that meant repressing any thought or feeling that wasn't directly in The Prototype's Service. He didn't care, all he needed was the adoration of his Saviour.
But, no matter how joyous his purpose made him feel, there was always a missing piece.
If only that one heretic would cooperate.-------------
Dogday gets rescued by the Player, and he and Catnap go through one hell of an emotional ringer.
