Summary
He’d turned them all one by one, with their consent, always making sure it was their choice. Even if he was thirsty, starving for it. Buck would never hurt his precious people, his family. The ones he loved the most. The ones who have chosen to live for eternity with him.
Then Buck meets Eddie Diaz and he thinks that his entire life has just shifted. He’s human too, Bobby hired a human probie to work with a group of vampires, and it’s almost funny because Eddie doesn’t seem to have a single clue about any of them.
Or Buck and Maddie are vampires that build their family over the years and when Buck meets Eddie and Chris, it feels like their family is complete

Summary
"So why are you going to Texas?" Eddie gestured towards the big, lit up Christmas tree in the corner of the room. "So close to the holidays."
"Work." Buck said easily.
"What's work?"
He rolled his lips and seemed to think the question over, "I guess you could say this is a volunteer trip. My actual job is working with reindeer."
Eddie chuckled, "Reindeer?" He shook his head. "Like the type that fly?"
"That's a specific breed." Buck winked. "Yeah, reindeer. I'm a specialist."
"And you're volunteering in El Paso?"
"Yeah," Buck shrugged and held up two fingers towards the hostess, gesturing for Eddie to step first after her and towards a table. "Everyone else thought it was a lost cause, but I've been a lost cause before too, so," He shrugged. "I figured why not?"
"And what exactly is this lost cause?" Eddie asked after thanking the hostess and sitting down.
Buck hummed, "Reuniting a family."

Summary
The kid claps a hand over his mouth. His eyes are huge and sparkling with something that looks like excitement or mischief, probably both.
"Sorry, sorry," he whispers loudly. Then he leans forward, like he's about to share a secret. "You're a hunk, right?"
Buck chokes on nothing. "I. What?"
"A hunk," the kid repeats. "You know, a hunk."
"I..." Buck has no idea what's happening. "Sure? I guess? I mean, I've been told... I work out sometimes—"
"Perfect!" The kid is already digging around in his backpack. He pulls out a slightly crumpled rectangle of cardstock and presents it to Buck with great ceremony. "This is for you."
It's a handmade card written in crayon, blue crayon. The handwriting is careful but wobbly, the letters all different sizes.

Summary
Eddie spots his mother first, standing near the living room with a glass of wine frozen halfway to her mouth. Her eyes track from Eddie's face to Buck's face to their joined hands, and Eddie watches her go through the five stages of grief in the span of two seconds.
Her right hand moves automatically, decades of muscle memory taking over as she touches her forehead, then her chest, then her left shoulder, then her right, her lips pressing together as she mutters what Eddie can only assume is a prayer for his immortal soul.
Across the room, Eddie catches Shannon's eye. She's standing by the fireplace with a drink in her hand and Chris at her side, and she looks like she's having to physically restrain herself from applauding. Her free hand is pressed over her mouth, shoulders shaking with laughter. When she catches Eddie looking she raises her glass in a tiny salute, eyes sparkling with mischief.
Chris, bless him, has no such restraint. His face splits into a massive grin and he turns to his mother and says, in a voice that is so loud it echoes, "Mom, you didn't tell me Dad's boyfriend was cool."

Instead of talking about it, Buck decides that he can be fun too. Then Eddie gets hurt and it’s all his fault. Buck will do anything to be good again so Eddie will forgive him. Even if he hurts himself doing it.
Eddie doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Buck wasn’t just acting out, he was scared. And now he’s dropping hard.

Summary
Eddie moves before Buck can blink—one smooth, unhesitating motion. His hands find Buck’s waist first, then slide lower, bracing under his thighs as he lifts. The world tilts, and for a second Buck feels weightless, the heat of Eddie’s palms searing through denim, the strength behind it dizzying against Buck’s already crumbling composure.
Then the counter meets him—cool beneath his thighs even through the fabric—Eddie’s hands leaving heat in their wake like a brand. Eddie’s still standing close enough that Buck’s knees frame him, not backing away immediately. His breath grazes Buck’s chest, eyes flicking up, the space between them charged with something that makes every cell in Buck’s body scream more, more, more.
“Now sit,” Eddie says firmly, hands still resting under Buck’s legs before he finally backs away. “Stay.”

Summary
"Hey, sorry about that, I was just—Eddie?”
Eddie’s head shot up at the sight of Buck, frozen halfway towards his seat. “Buck?”
Buck let out an awkward chuckle and glanced around. “There must be a mix-up, I’ll go ask—”
“No!” Eddie practically yelled the word, and then he winced at the desperation in his own voice. Belatedly, he realized it was possible that people who were interested in men were supposed to be sitting there. But Buck was watching him with wide eyes, still paused leaning on his chair, so Eddie added, “I could use a six-minute break. You know, from finding out how many siblings every woman in this bar has.”
Buck’s eyes glinted in the dim bar lighting. He finally took the seat and asked, “oh, so you don’t care about how many siblings I have?”
——
Eddie and Buck finally go on a date. It just takes them three times to realize it.

“Are you and Buck fighting?” Hen asks curiously.
“No, we’re not fighting,” Eddie says. “It’s just…the Tootsie Pops are distracting, right?”
Hen’s eyebrows scrunch together. “Distracting? Distracting how?”
“Like he’s always sucking on them,” Eddie says, sure that once Hen understands, she’ll agree with him. “And Buck is Buck, so it’s really not appropriate for him to be doing that all day.”
“Buck is Buck? I’m not sure I follow,” Hen says, narrowing her eyes at him.
“He’s hot!” Eddie spits out and immediately regrets it. “Like objectively. Buck is objectively hot, right? So he shouldn’t be walking around like that just...sucking on things.”

When he gets close enough, Chris can see that the paper he is clutching in his tiny hands is a card. A really badly coloured card, with a stick figure drawing of a woman and a much smaller figure with blond hair.
Oh.
Chris gets it before Theo even says the words.
“Mrs. Tina said it’s mother’s day on Sunday. We made cards,” Theo explains, his voice lacking the usual enthusiasm.
Chris has no idea what to say. He might relate, but that only makes it worse because he knows that there isn’t a thing you can say to make a child feel better after losing a parent. It just sucks, and there is no real fix for it.OR,

‘So what do you do?’ Buck asks, finally remembering his lines.
‘I’m a paramedic, actually. Recently switched from firefighting.’
‘You’re serious?’ Buck asks, feigning shock.
‘Yeah?’ Eddie tilts his head to the side, like he’s trying to figure out why it’s a problem.
‘No, it’s just-’ Buck pauses for effect, shaking his head, scoffing like he can’t quite believe the coincidence, ‘I’m a firefighter as well.’
‘Wow,’ Eddie says, fake breathless, eyes swimming with delight, ‘We have so much in common already.’

“So,” Eddie said.
Buck glanced over. “So.”
“Beck asked me out.”
The world narrowed.
Buck’s hand froze on the truck. “What?”
--
Or, Beckett Walsh, a firefighter from the London Fire Brigade, joins the 118 for a three-week exchange program and looks exactly like Buck.
Everyone sees it.
Everyone except Eddie.
So when Beck asks Eddie out, Eddie says yes, hoping one date might help him understand why every relationship before this has felt almost right.
Unfortunately for Buck, “almost right” looks a lot like him.

“He’s not,” Christopher interrupted after he swallowed, his eyebrows furrowed, “that’s not- no. Bucks not my uncle.”
His abuela waved a dismissive hand, “Oh, of course not, I know that. Isn’t that a thing you young ones do? Refer to your parents' close friends as aunts or uncles?”
And here’s the thing, yes. He refers to Hen and Karen as his aunties. He’s never blinked at that. He routinely tells people that he and Denny are basically cousins.
Sure, he even calls Maddie and Chim his aunt and uncle without a second thought, but that’s because - well, that’s because..
