When Kaveh and Alhaitham became a couple, everyone thought they would break up within the month.
…And everyone had been wrong, thank you very much. They survived a full year sharing a home, sharing a life, sharing a cat.
And really, Kaveh should consider one year and three months quite an achievement, given that this was Alhaitham he had been putting up with for all that time, with his absurd idiosyncrasies and infuriating jabs. It should have been obvious from the beginning that Kaveh would never be able to exchange wedding rings with someone with such an impressively awful eye for interior design.
Or: Kaveh breaks up with Alhaitham. But they keep shared custody of the cat.

Summary
This side of Alhaitham — warm, gentle, vulnerable — was concealed from most. Perhaps only Kaveh was privy to just how human Sumeru’s famed “machine-like genius” truly was when stripped of his reticence and silence. In the streets of the city and within the walls of the Akademiya, he was always furtively observing and analysing others while hiding the mechanisms of his own mind; in the intimacy of their home however, he let his emotions and finicky character show through without fear that they would be misinterpreted.
It almost made Kaveh feel like a good person to see Alhaitham at ease with him.
“Come,” Alhaitham called, pulling gently on his hand. “I’ll show you how beautiful you are.”
Or: Kaveh hates his reflection in the mirror. Alhaitham demonstrates just how much he disagrees with that opinion.

Summary
After almost two months of dating, Kaveh finally gets to suck Alhaitham off—and after waiting for so long, he’s determined to show Alhaitham just how much the two of them have been missing out on.
“I’m curious as to why you’re still kissing my face,” Alhaitham says, “when supposedly your mouth is being magnetically pulled between my legs.”
“Wait,” Kaveh says, eyes widening. “So can I, then? Suck you off?”
Alhaitham cocks an eyebrow. “Only if you make sure that I come. You’re preventing me from reading, which is how I normally wind down before going to bed. I’ll require at least one orgasm to ensure that I sleep soundly.”

Kaveh paused. The soft, calming voice coming through the speakers drifted into his ears like a soothing ripple of nostalgia that simultaneously brought him relief and alarmed shock. It was familiar with its gentle, low cadence, and seemed to plunge him into a well of memories he had managed to avoid falling into for longer than he could count.
Or: five years after their breakup, Kaveh finds out that Alhaitham is working as a radio host, and starts listening.

“Dad?” A little voice speaks from the hallway, and Kaveh’s stomach drops.
She stares at the two of them with curious green eyes, a little girl, no older than six. Her hair is white, decorated with a few strings of crocheted vines. They look sweet, tiny bells in them softly chime as she turns, her relaxed expression turning a bit wary the second she notices Kaveh.
“What… Who is this?” Kaveh whispers.
“The reason.”

As Kaveh made his way to row 3 seat B, the woodsy, petrichor-rich scent he’d assumed was some expensive air freshener in the airport terminal filled his senses far more strongly.

Kaveh stopped so abruptly the passenger walking behind him stumbled into his carry-on.
His gaze collided with the alpha’s once more. From up close, the ocean hidden within those devastatingly beautiful eyes felt endless, inviting him toward depths he was already drowning in - instantly overcome by the dizzying sensation of falling from a cliff overlooking the vast, expansive sea.

Hair in a bun, skates laid out on the floor, and an idle tune hummed under his breath — he’s nearly set.
His phone starts ringing while he’s rushing towards a bench to put down his belongings, and he scrambles to reach for it in the depths of his bag. He finds it, finger poised to answer as he looks up.
And that’s when he sees him.
Even through the hockey helmet, Kaveh can see the familiar traces of gray hair. If the height and broad build weren’t a dead giveaway, that certainly squandered any doubt. Alhaitham. The Sumeru Jackals hockey team’s main defenseman. Of course… who else could it be?
Kaveh stares at him for a beat too long before snapping himself out of it. There’s no way. There is no way he’s here.

While Alhaitham knows he’s done all he can to save everyone, there is no guarantee that the plan will work. After all, if it fails, he may never get the chance to live the life he has always wanted to have with Kaveh.

Two large, fluffy ears sat on top of Alhaitham’s head, in the same colour as his hair but dotted with black spots. And, peeking out from the hem of his sweatpants was the tip of a thick, furry, grey… tail.
“What the fuck?”“I don’t know,” Alhaitham repeated, crossing his arms. “Such exclamations aren’t specifically helpful to my situation.”
Even in the dimness of the too-early morning, it was clear that his newly-acquired ears flattened in distress as he spoke, much like those of a kitten.

Summary
Alhaitham shows up at home as a slime, nearly giving Kaveh a heart attack, and they go seek help from Tighnari. In Gandharva Ville, Alhaitham makes use of his temporary slime form to pleasure Kaveh; meanwhile, Cyno and Tighnari take a slight detour from their mission and fuck in a cave. Cyno snatches every opportunity to make endless puns, of course, much to the others’ dismay.
Trembling, Kaveh got to his feet, staring at the slime while an awful sinking sensation in his stomach tried to return him to the floor. He had to figure this out and he had to stay calm.
“Holy fuck! Did you eat Alhaitham?!” he accused, definitely not calmly at all.
The slime tilted to one side, its eyes somehow conveying exasperation. It gave Kaveh the chills, because that was the exact expression Alhaitham sometimes made. Except, he was human. And this slime was a slime.
Or wait… was it?...
“Nari…”
“Yes?”
“Would you still love me if I were a slime?"
“Pfft~” Tighnari shoved him lightly in the chest. “Maybe if you were a mushroom.”
