I hadn’t really kissed anyone before.” He takes an orange bell pepper from the bag his mom brought over and brings it over to the counter. “Not anyone I really wanted to kiss anyway.” He cuts the top and bottom off the pepper and then works on cutting out the seeds. “Ilya’s a good kisser,” he adds. And he can’t believe he’s just said that out loud to his mom.

Still embarrassing, to have his breakup with this beautiful actress filmed and disseminated on Reddit of all fucking places, but not a nail in his coffin, burying him alive. But the video didn’t end there.
“Can I ask if you’ve ever been with another guy?” she had to ask.
And he, tears visible in his eyes, had to nod.
Just once. Just a single nod.
Why did he have to nod?
“Have you ever told anyone that before?” He shook his head. “Was it different? With a guy?”

Ilya blinks blearily up at him, starfished in the sheets. Beautiful and naked and missing his mother’s cross.
OR: When Ilya’s cross goes missing after the Centaurs celebrate their first Stanley Cup win, Shane is determined to get it back. And so are the Centaurs. And the rest of Ottawa.

Summary
The best way to describe this work, I think, is as a novelization of the television series told from Ilya Rozanov's point of view. What happens in the series will happen, more or less, in this work.
Please note, I did read both Heated Rivalry and The Long Game by Rachel Reid, but that was some time ago and my recollection of them is spotty at best. Because they are novels and this is a written story, I did NOT consult the books in order to reduce the chance that I would inadvertently plagiarize them. That means that where the television series leaves a gap in the narrative, I may fill it with something very different than what happens in the books. We will all end up at the cottage, but some of us are taking a slightly different path to get there.
This novelization means that potentially triggering things that happen in the series (like mental health issues) will happen in this work. NOTE, HOWEVER, no new issues will be added in this work. No one dies. No one is outed. No one is assaulted. This is just the story of the show as if it were from Ilya's point of view.

So now they were heading to see Roz. Bood couldn’t lie and say he hadn’t pulled the A card for this hospital trip mostly to get to come and see Roz. No, not just Roz. Roz and his boyfriend. Roz and the honest-to-god motherfucking boyfriend that none of them had known that he’d had. Roz and the boyfriend he all but definitely moved to Ottawa for. Bood was over the fucking moon. There was no way in hell Rozanov was ever missing another barbecue.
A short sequel of sorts to 'Crashing' in which Bood and Dykstra make a trip to the hospital the day after Shane drives down to be with Ilya after the plane crash. Revelations, tenderness, and humour ensue.

Summary
The kiss is tender, Shane slotting his lips over Ilya’s like they’re filling a space that’s been empty for far, far, too long. Their mouths mirror the way Shane cradles Ilya’s body, and yeah, fucking hell - they really are that, two puzzle pieces that just happen to also be people. Ilya wonders if they were born or created to fit this way - and if God and heaven exist, he decides that upon arrival at those pearlescent afterlife gates, Ilya will personally shake his, her, or their hand in gratitude for that divine design.
In fact, for all of his soul-searching today - Ilya would happily define himself as a human born for the express purpose of fitting perfectly with the person of Shane Hollander. It may be the only thing he has ever done perfectly, and he’s okay with that.
Suddenly, because Shane is definitely rubbing off on him, Ilya says:
“I have an idea?”
Shane keeps his arms tightly wrapped around him as he replies:
“What?” His nose brushes Ilya’s, almost like his body needs to keep them connected while their mouths are occupied with that foolish business of talking as opposed to being linked in a kiss.
Relatable, really.
“Have you ever tried docking?”
