Summary
Megatron, new to leadership, anticipated betrayal from those above him, rejecting any leadership in all its forms save his own. He had not yet learned to anticipate betrayal from those beneath him.
Optimus found his former friend, looking as he did when they were miners, cog ripped from his chassis and empty once more.
As Optimus hides Megatron away while he heals, they both struggle to face the limits of strength, the burdens of leadership, their roles in the new age of Cybertron, a shared past that still draws them towards one another, the circumstances that forced them apart - and a somewhat inconvenient difference in size.

“If the humans entered right now, I’d threaten to shoot them for interrupting and ignoring the bold, explicit ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign I hung on the door,” Elita declared with perfect seriousness, and Optimus knew she would, and damn the consequences.
Or, Optimus needs a nap, and Elita and Megatron will make sure he follows the doctor's orders.
