Where Alex’s boyfriend stands tall and regal, his furry counterpart is small and fluffy, unable to summit even the most minor of obstacles.
Take their sofa, for one. Alex is watching TV and minding his own business, when he hears a steady thump from just below him. Peering over the edge of the dark cushion, he spots his boyfriend angrily pounding his back foot against the carpet.
“Ha! Is my little bun too tiny to get up here on his own?” Alex teases. He’s promptly rewarded with a whisker twitch followed by a nose scrunch. Henry is pouting and it’s the most adorable thing he’s ever witnessed.

Because they’re fresh out of rehab, and vulnerable, and in need of some stability? A decent person says yes, of course—which is exactly what Henry did. In fact, he was kind of looking forward to having someone else in the house—he loves David, and he goes down to the shelter a few times a week—he’s hardly a recluse, but being an author isn’t exactly affording him much of a social life—not that he often minds it all too much. However—someone in his house to talk to who also talks back had sounded like a fine trade for helping a young man through a hard time.
Only—then Alex walked into his life.

Alex's daughter is growing up, a fact he is entirely not okay with.
She's becoming a teenager, thinks he's the most boring, lamest dude alive and wants nothing to do with the traditions they had while she was growing up - especially reading Henry Fox's books.
But when Henry Fox begins a reading programme at their local library, she is sat in the front row. Because she wants to be, not because Alex is forcing her. Not because Alex is slightly in love with a man he's never met, the first person to actually see him.
