Arthur is standing in the doorway, blocking the sun. This makes him look like a messenger from heaven – rays of light forming a halo around his head, a beaming smile as bright as the light of the new day. My knight in shining armor, muses Merlin inwardly and bites his tongue. He should not stoop to cheesy comments even inside his head, for it’s not helping the kind of feeling Merlin has been developing to the Once and Future King throughout the centuries.

...Merlin grits his teeth. He hates his destiny at the moment. After all he’s been through he’s now deprived of the only little refreshment he can get, of his little moment of weakness in the imaginary arms of an imaginary Arthur, who would finally accept him in all the ways he’s ever dreamed of.
Instead he’s stuck with a sneering prat, who has a memory loss and an obvious desire to make Merlin’s life a living hell. He could live with it as a minor discomfort for a couple of days, but after the sneering idiot implied he could be the reborn Arthur, all Merlin wants to do is to throw something. A tantrum, for a start...

Summary
Arthur survives the battle of Camlann but discovers that Merlin is a sorcerer when Merlin kills Morgana to save Arthur’s life. Feeling angry and betrayed, Arthur banishes Merlin.
Five years later, in a war-torn Camelot, Arthur is finally ready to talk to Merlin, and they realize that they can only fulfill the prophecy together, side by side.
The next morning, they wake up in the past, in their young bodies.

“Someone or something has sent us back in time, right to the beginning, with all our memories,” Merlin says, and it’s only now that it dawns on him what that truly means. “Just imagine everything we could do, everything we could change for the better. We could make everything right this time.”
Arthur hesitates for a moment. “Can we even change the future?”
“Yes, I think we can”, Merlin answers with confidence and new-found hope in his voice.
