Summary

Gideon cocked her head to the side. “Is there a reason you’re waiting?” There was no judgement in the question— only genuine curiosity.
Perhaps it was this that made Harrow more inclined to answer. “I don’t have the time to look for someone new,” She shrugged. “And my available pool is… somewhat limited.”
“Well,” Gideon said, with just a hint of conspiracy in those glittering golden eyes. “If you ever want to change that, you have my number.”

She'd been bundled into one of six identical cars which all headed in different directions, and handed over to the American agents at the airport, who had provided her with documents and deposited her here, in nowheresville, small town America, in the house of a woman she didn't know and a new life she couldn't recognise.

The protocol upon discovering corpses is very simple. Assess the damage from a safe distance, strip the remains of all their belongings, then smash their head in with whatever’s handy lest they go on to awake with a vengeance and a mindless craving for human flesh to boot.
Kara whispers a silent apology and a note of gratitude for the woman the body used to house as she kneels down beside it. After one last cursory once-over, Kara reaches for the backpack, still clutched tightly to the woman’s chest.
At the very first tug, a pale hand shoots up and seizes Kara by the wrist.

The moment Kara finally sees the sorceress, the hair on the back of her neck stands on end.
She’s not fearsome, really. If anything, she almost looks harmless there, peeking out from under her furs and duvet with eyes still half-lidded, hair tousled from her slumber. Adorable, if witchers were inclined to think such sentimentalities.
But Lena Luthor, small, pale, and sleepy, also exudes such force of magic that it sends Kara’s medallion rattling madly against her chest under her shirt. The witcher’s senses alight with a power unlike any she’s encountered in years and years, a might more fearsome than a roaring dragon’s own.
