Guys, I swear I saw Shane Hollander in some random store in Lanaudière, and at first I was like omg this is so cool, like I'm actually seeing an NHL player in real life!! But then it got really dark really quickly… He was waiting at the cash register, so I got in line behind him. And then I saw the text messages he was sending someone (I'm guessing his girlfriend???) and now I'm kinda scared ngl. Like istg I wasn't trying to snoop, but also he was positioning his phone in such a way where it was impossible not to look. Sue me for being intrigued.
During Shane and Ilya’s two weeks at the cottage, Shane’s texts to “Lily” get leaked to the public. Thankfully for Shane, nothing in those texts has anything to do with him being gay or dating Ilya Rozanov. Not so thankfully for him, people now think he’s an abusive asshole. Even worse; those people include his parents, who come to his cottage to find answers.
Or: everyone thinks Shane abuses his girlfriend Lily, and Yuna Hollander is not at all amused about, while Shane is just upset that his parents have such an issue with him being gay.

Yuna looked up from her plate, exchanging a glance with David, who also seemed unsure of what exactly Ilya was referring to.
“What do you mean, Ilya?” David asked.
“Me and Shane. Us being together.”
David set his utensils down. He looked genuinely concerned for the first time tonight, his brow furrowed. Yuna wasn’t quite sure that she understood, either.
“Well, I don’t think you’ve given us a good reason not to be okay with it,” David said.
“Maybe I had my doubts, but I think it’s obvious that you love him, you really do,” Yuna added.
“I love him, that is enough?” Ilya asked.
Is love enough? How was Yuna supposed to answer that?

Follow-up to "why do you hate him?". Yuna and David invite Ilya to dinner after finding out that he and Shane are in love. They need to know, is this real, and is Ilya as good for Shane as he says he is? Along the way, the find that there's much more hidden beneath his indifferent exterior. But in a world and hockey league that is unlikely to accept them, Ilya needs to know just as badly, is his love enough?

He and Yuna had a long talk after Shane first came out. About their son, of course, but about Rozanov as well, and how different the man sitting at their table had been from the man they watched on the ice. Rozanov, as a hockey player, was arrogant, crass, and merciless; checking, chirping, cutting across the ice like he’d never known warmth beyond it. But Ilya, as their son’s boyfriend, was oddly… careful. He wound his composure tight, was fleetingly gentle beneath his and Yuna’s gaze but freely gave comfort when he thought they were alone, and scarily attuned to Shane, considering how little time they’d actually spent together.
Although, David supposes, when you’re afforded only three or four opportunities to meet each year, then you’d drink in every detail of those encounters like a drowning man.
