Summary
Inspired by a tumblr post by @goldenaltar about a no astrophage/space diplomacy AU I literally could NOT stop thinking about since I first read it.
The first collaboration between eridians and humans involves planning for a proper first contact, out in space so their respective interstellar trip times are cut (approximately) in half. Grace was conscripted for ‘Project Neighborhood’ as one of many biologists on the team. He sneaks out to the tunnel connecting their ships after hours to try and catch a glimpse of a Real Life Alien - and there's an eridian on the other side who has the exact same idea.
When their sneaking around catches up to them, they're forced to consider the implications of all this sneaking around, and maybe lean into them a little to keep from being thrown out the nearest airlock - or starting an intergalactic war.

The man turned toward me, he was wearing a heavyweight parka over a green jumpsuit uniform, and for some reason, I couldn't stop staring at his eyes behind those thick glasses. It was also green. But not the pale kind or the dull kind. It was bright green. The sort of eyes that immediately grabbed your attention and refused to let go.
Then I noticed the expression attached to those eyes.
Oh. That was definitely not gratitude I am seeing over there, buddy.
Or, Grace wakes from a coma with no memory of the events of Hail Mary, but this grumpy engineer who can turn him into a complete mess somehow feels hauntingly familiar.

Summary
Grace loves having his own personal beach to swim at. That is, until the ocean turns into blood and a body appears out of nowhere, floating like a corpse and only mostly human. As Simon recovers, he and Grace realize that their worlds are two branches in time- one where Grace went to space, and one where he didn't. One where the stars survived, and one where they didn't.
If Simon only exists because of a choice this Grace never made, can Simon forgive him? Can Grace ever forgive himself?

Summary
